cheapish 7 string choices??

hey,

i'm in need of a 7 string guitar so i can play 7 string songs of dream theater for my dt tribute band. I dont want to spend a fortune, and i am perfectly happy with used guitars...i just need to know what to look for.

So what cheap ibanez (preferably) models are there that are playable for dt?

What kind of prices would i be looking at?

thanks

I think an RG is probably what you're looking at...

RG7420s are still in production and can be had used for under 3 bills easily. The trem isn't as top-notch as others but if you block it then it'd be a killer deal for you.

The RG7620s are getting pricey but alot of places still have them and don't know how to get rid of them. I picked one up a month ago for $250 at the local Guitar Center...it was mis-marked and no one around here is playing 7's besides me anyway. I'd say for $400 you could probably get yourself into one of these.

If you don't need a trem, the options open up considerably. The RG7321 and 7421 are solid axes, and there are a lot of fixed-bridge Schecters and LTD models that are pretty good bang for the buck.

Right on, ESPs and Schecters are out there...but be sure to play one before you jump...neck profiles are considerably different than a good ole Ibanez.

Also consider a hard tail...a little less expensive and you can always route and add a trem later if you must. 7621s are around, two on the wall in my local GC alone. Also consider the AX version, only 22 frets but a good deal in a 7 nonetheless.

The local store here just got a used ESP LTD MH-307(mint condition) in on a trade and they are selling it for $300. For a Korean made guitar it is really nice! Things like this always turn up when I'm broke and just spent a bunch of money on something else.

As you're in the UK, scare a 7620 of **** and get it shipped, or try ishibashi's second hand section. Best bet, as you'll want a trem (I assume)

Try to get one with a beat up body, it'll be going for less
