custom 7 string hard tail bridges are on the way!
This is getting really exciting. I just got a call from Hipshot. As part of my project to get my line of 7 strung soff the ground, I've had them build me a custom 7 string version of their hard tail bridge. It's an absolutely beautiful piece, solid machined brass. The first batch are in black and they should be here in about a week. The chrome version should arrive three weeks later.
This is so cool. I've been trying to put this together for over a year and the bridge was one of the major stumbling blocks. I had never found a 7
string bridge
that I really thought was worth building a guitar with, so to have one now really makes the whole project viable.
Here's a link to the chrome 6 string version. The design for the 7 string is just proportionately larger.

I just called and yes I can get gold. I really didn't mean to turn the forum into a sales pitchh, so Email me at

sleek. i approve.
I know this doesn;t REALLY fit with what you're doing, but what are the odds of getting a good 7-string vintage-style trem out of them based on a similar design? you know, two pivot points, and something a little "higher class" than the pressed steel ibanez uses on their low-end
vintage trem
7...

Well, the profile isn't quite as sexy, but close enough.
I've always wanted to do a 7-string strat ripoff- three singlecoils and a vintage trem- but the holdup has always been the trem. Actually, the holdup has always been my lack of funds and/or manual expertise, but aside from that.
Thanks.

Looks a lot like the PRS trem bridges. And that's a good thing. Drew, you may want to look into them.

Darren, i hate you.
I was aware of one seven-string they built for a potential endorsee, and i was under the impression that it was the only one in existance. is this it?
And yeah, that trem's perfect. does prs sell it?

As far as i know, that guitar was a one-off private stock model that they had at NAMM a couple of years ago.
But i would imagine if you've got the dough to pony up for a Private Stock model, anything is possible... for a price.
If Jim's been successful in getting Hipshot to make a 7-
string fixed bridge
, maybe we can twist their arms to make a trem version as well. It looks like a quality piece of hardware. Personally, i'd rather have a two-post knife-
edge bridge
than the vintage-style PRS bridge with the six screws.

It's possible. BTW, twist is not exactly right. I paid the programming fees for the 7 string fixed bridge so that unit #1 costs me an extra $70.

That's all? Wow. That's pretty reasonable for a custom piece of hardware like that!
