Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
What do you guys think? I think it's an awesome instrument. I like to have one of those, if it's not to expensive..

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
The player is real good, guitar is kind of ugly in my opinion. I was on the fence if I should or not consider buying an 8 string, this video convinced me I don't need one, the low string is way too bassy for my taste, I didn't imagine it being so bassy.., But if you like this, get one, its very unique, I may not like the shape of the guitar but it looks like a quality instrument none the less.

I kind of didn't care for either. I mean the player was okay, just not my cup of tea. The guitar really wasn't my cup of tea though...

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
I like what he's playing. The guitar reminds me of the "furniture basses" that guys like Benevente and Nordstrand make with high-quality woods. I'd be interested to know more about it.

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
The guitar is Tosin's design and was hand made to his specs by
The Illustrated Luthier
.
There are threads on it over at sevenstring.org:

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
That would have been so much better if the
low strings
weren't so buzzy sounding. The guy's playing is very, very good, and the music he's playing there is cool. Too bad it's ruined by the bad sound quality of those low strings. Sounds like a $50 bass that needs a setup.

Are you sure it's the low strings and not the camera and youtube beatdown on the audio?

No, definitely not. The audio quality for that vid is pretty decent, and wouldn't cause the low stuff to sound like that. Every time the guy plucks that low 8th string (especially when he frets it), it sounds like buzzy crap. And it's all the guitar.

I think he uses a high output pick-up and just puts to much pressure om the low F# picking wise.
Just my 0,2 $

I think that might be a Neodymium pickup in the neck. I'm damn curious about them.

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
I love this video! His tone is amazing and I love how that guitar looks. Even the "tumor" Haha.
And Tosin Abasi's band's new album Animals As Leaders (self-titled) is amazing.
He is really inspiring me to get an 8 string and learn to play like that now.

Re: Custom 8 string from Tosin Abasi
If the Elephant Man had his own signature model, I imagine it would look similar to the guitar in that video.
