Double Edge - How good does it really sound

Well. i was wondering. Does the double edge sound like an acoustic, and is the tremmolo of the same kind as the Lo-pro ?

Jay- *yes...and yes. *:-)

The piezos do a wonderful job of mimicing an acoustic guitar. *No- It won't sound like a $3000 Taylor, but then again...show me a Taylor with a trem. LOL *Todd Crawford put up some sound samples a while back. *I'll try to dig them up.

The Double-Edge trems are exactly the same design and shape, and function, just like Lo Pro's. *The only TINY differences are the piezo elements in the saddles, the PC board attached to the trem block (underneath/not visible) and the wires coming from the elements (underneath/not visible). *

It's a helluva design.

Does anyone know how much this costs, cuz I've always wanted to put a piezo on my RG 7620. *

Shred- save yourself some massive tooling costs, re-routing of wood and wasted time. *
Try to find an Ibanez RG-2027.

You'll thank me. :-)

Jay- to answer your question honestly: no. *Here's why...

If I'm not mistaken, the acoustic parts were done with a Carvin Acoustic. *While the piezos sound great, it's really tough to get a true acoustic tone without an acoustic guitar.
That's just the way it is.

Now, if you don't have EJ's ears, I'd highly recommend you check out a DoubleEdge-equipped guitar. *I think you'll like it, and how close it'll get you to the tone you're looking for.

P.S.- Don't forget to do the KJG Wiring Mod to your new DE guitar. *:-)

I agree with Kevan, one awesome design! I like Piezo much Better than a true Acoustic sounds, yet im strange and never liked the clunky feel and woody tone of any Acoustic.
The RG2027 is flawless, sounds better IMO, cuz it has an *electric/metalic Acoustic slurr sound. Just killer!!! Add the First class craftsmanship and Low B with a whammy, The best of many worlds.

She does need Dimarzio Pickups for the Electric side, The stock pickups sound ok, yet don't hang very well next to the Universe...

The L.R. Baggs piezo system really is awesome. *It sounds better (more warmth, body, and depth) than my Fishman Powerbridge equipped Strat. *I'm no Vai or Petrucci but here's a recent song recorded with my 2027 (still the stock pups - I've yet to scrounge the $ for a Tone Zone and PAF7). *It's very sloppy but should give you a feel for the tones achievable with the guitar. *Acoustic tones were recorded 2027 piezo direct to Boss AD-5 Acoustic Instrument Processor and 2027 mags direct to POD Pro.

2027 MP3

Thanks,

Randy

Randy- great track. *Thanks!

If you guys want a fun comparison test, at your local music store, try out the piezo and mag's on a Double Edge-equipped guitar next to a Parker Fly.

Listen to what your ears tell you.

Here's my little piezo sound-byte contribution:

piezo2.mp3

It was quickly recorded onto my computer this evening using the POD tube preamp model.
