Evil tuning from the depths of Heck
Was experimenting with regular Drop-D tuning on my seven (as in, E down to D like on a regular six) and felt I had to do something with the low B. Tuning it up to D was a bit too imprecise for fast rhythm playing, so...
G D A D G B E
Hehehe. Stacked fifths rock.

haha, here's an idea- mirror it on the top two strings. Drop the B to an unison G, and then drop the E to D.

Petie, I've been using that tuning for years. (Actually, all dropped a half step down from that, so Gb, Db, Ab, etc.) My band has an album's worth of songs written in that tuning. It's alot of fun, and very heavy. Best part is baritone triads on the bottom three strings.
A Major

---4---

Etc. Minor chords, just fret back one note on the A string, so 3rd fret C instead of 4th fret C# for A minor. Of course, seven string chords are easily achieved as well.

A great tuning.

Cool! Thanks for the tips. I'm still very new to this whole 7-string thing. I'd been lusting after one since I was 13 years old but only got my hands on one two weeks ago.
The tuning I mentioned was sort of inspired by one I use on my Tele (which I use for metal, believe it or not, Duncans rule!), C G C G C E.

A Tele for metal? Lol... well, why not. I saw The Reverend Horton Heat once (they opened up for White Zombie,) and the singer/guitarist played a Tele, and they were pretty freakin' heavy! Not to mention, the bass player played this wild upright bass with FLAMES painted on it. The bassist set it on its side about halfway though the set and played it while lying prone, and the singer climbed on TOP of the reclining bass. Craziest thing I ever saw!

Interesting. I've seen him 3 times now & he's always played a Gretsch 6120 or a White Falcon. He's coming to Seattle for 3 shows this weekend & I plan to attend at LEAST one of them.

Tele for metal? I could believe it... Lifer, a nu-metal tinged band that i'm really into, cut most of their guitar tracks on their self-titled debut with a tele, and their tones have some pretty crazy definition. And i think
Tom Morello
of RaTM uses a tele a good amount...

The Reverend Horton Heat I saw wasn't a "him" it was a band, and this was circa '95, '96 at the latest (Obviously a while ago, as it was White Zombie I saw, who are now defunct. The Astrocreep 2000 tour.)

James Black of finger eleven uses early '90s Fender TelePlus's, the ones with a Lace pickup in the neck, and a twin Lace pickup (i.e. humbucker) in the bridge spot. Sounds great, and looks different from all those PRS slingers. Ironically, the other guitarist, Rick Jackett, uses PRS
Swamp Ash
Specials almost exclusively. Again, great sound.

And
Devin Townsend
uses Teles.
I'm using
Seymour Duncan
Quarter Pounder single coils. They sound totally fat, not twangy at all. But I think most of the tone comes from the fact that it's the heaviest chunk of wood I've ever picked up.
