Evo-7 or Blaze?

Just got a 7620 and am thinking of getting some fresh pickups. Love the way Evo sounds in my 550, but have no experience with 7-string pickups. Looking for some expert opinions. Any suggestions?

Re: Evo-7 or Blaze?

...I have the Ev0-7 and it's awesome, it basically sounds like the 6 string version but is perfectly adjusted to the seventh string...

Do you have the Evo 7 in the bridge or neck position?

I wonder how it sounds in the neck position.

Bridge position, but I imagine that if you have a D Activator 7(bridge) or the X2N in the bridge that it would be okay output wise but I don't believe that it will be warm enough for the neck, unless you don't care about that...

Re: Evo-7 or Blaze?

I really like the Evo, but I just didn't know how suited it would be for the B string. Sounds like it does a pretty decent job though.

I moved the Evo-7 from the bridge pos of my UV777GR to the neck pos... Evo in the neck sounds great for cut and sustain for solos... cleans aren't quite the best on the low B and sounds louder than the cleans on the bridge. And oh ya, it's currently matched with a D-Activator7 in the bridge and they sorta "balance" out in distortion mode... waiting for a D-Activator 7 neck to remedy the Evo7 neck.
Otherwise, Evo7 on the bridge is great for crunchy and fast riffs.

Re: Evo-7 or Blaze?

When I get my next 7 string pickup (maybe a D sonic 7), I will move my PAF 7 (currently in the bridge) to the neck because it is just one sweet pickup for everything. In fact, I'm waiting to see how well it sounds with my Carvin V3 in the bridge before I decide what pickup I want (I love to switch between death metal like Nile and Deicide to jazz like Stanley Jordan).

Re: Evo-7 or Blaze?

OK, first off, the evo7 is NOT like the evo. Basically I hated everything about the evolution, clinical, sterile, no balls.

However, the 7string pickup is the opposite. It still has the gain, but actually has balls, screams and really cuts through. I hated the evo's in my BSB (they are long gone) and never tried one out, but when i did, i loved it. Plus low notes are bell like and clear. The evo7 is a fantastic pickup.

Blaze is good, but different. I prefer the blaze for recording as it's lower output, but, i have to specify that I raise the 4 (well, 8 technically) bass pole pieces out of the pickup little, and this makes me like the blaze (bridge), before i did that (got a guitar with the pole pieces like that) I really didn't gel with it as a bridge pickup.

Basically either is good

Anyway, Evo7 if you want clear cutting with balls, blaze if you want something a little more rocky and less metal and high output.

The x2n7 is pretty cool as well, as long as you remember to put it 1/2" or so away from the strings to tame it slightly.

Neck wise, I love the Blaze Neck quite a lot, it always has sounded good, but the AN7 is a favorite of many people as well.

If you want a pickup guide to a crapload of 7string pickups, then have a look on www.sevenstring.org , as they have a pickup review sticky thread in the pickups section.

If you want an easy choice:
Evo7 bridge
Air Norton 7 neck
