Evolution 7 not so bad.. - Just put one, and an AirNorton7,

Well, after looking at all sorts of posts on here, and the old forom, plus spending hours at Dimarzio's site looking at tone charts, I got an Evo7..

I like it, it's pretty darn crunchy, sorta like a mellowed out(harmonically), then overwound, Norton.. I like all the midrange it puts out, and the massive treble helps a bit too.. Funny thing, the pickup takes up the whole rout on my RG7, it's the right height with no risers, just sitting flush against the guitar.. Pretty cool.. I'm gonna save my full opinion till I've had it a bit though..

The AirNorton7 is exactly what I expected, same tone as the 6 string one..

What I'm kinda miffed about is that Dimarzio told me they don't make these pickups in white, so I had to get creme.. I really wanted the white to off-set the blue RG.. Oh well.. Still, they're about a million times better than those stock new7 things...

Just for fun, here she is.. Currently unnamed, but that'll change soon, as I start playing her more.. Still Haven't gotten used to the neck width, but that should come in time..

She's wired like this now, though:
Bridge
Bridge + Neck tapped(inside coils)
Bridge + Neck
Bridge + Neck tapped(outside coils)
Neck

One megaswitch, one 1meg volume, and a 'dummy' tone..

Sorry for the blurry images, I'm not really good with cameras..

BTW, did I mention the Evo7 sounds sick playing gallop rhythms on the low B? Well, it does..

NEED MORE COMMENTARY...please let us know how you like that combination of pickups. *Mojo, if you get those put in your 2027, let me know how you like it. *I am struggling with what to do pickup wize in both my UV and my 2027. *I'm thinking TZ in bridge and Air Norton Neck in the 2027 and EVO and PAF in my UV. *Although I am considering Rio Grande pickups in one of those guitars, they have gotten great reviews and the finishes you can get are just insane.

Evolution 7 not so bad..

Okay, after ten days of playing her off and on, I still really like the Evo7..

I've had this 7620 for two months, and in the month and a 2/3 that it had the stock pickups I maybe played it three times.. The first time the new7s didn't really sound too bad, but each time I picked it up they sounded worse to me..

In the last 10 days I've played this guitar about 12 times.. It's as inspiring as my other guitars, and I don't feel like it's missing something.. The Evo7 is fatter sounding than the regular Evo pickup, much more mids. Gain still is a bit on the high side, but it's tight enough to not bother me. The two split positions don't lose volume, and sound straty enough too.. Pinch harmonics are so easy to get I have to hold back sometimes..

The best part for me: I can play Kreator-inspired riffs on the low B without it woofing and farting.. This is *the* thrash metal bridge pickup for a 7 string, IMO.. Still think it sounds close to a Norton, with more output.. Lead tones are good and clear, without being harsh up at the higher registers..

Yup, that one's a keeper..

The AirNorton7 was no surprise, sounds indentical to the 6 string version.. Same tone, output, and harmonic content.. I never could get over how this pickup will do natural and pinch hamonics so well, for a neck pickup.. *Good match with the Evo7 too..
