Hey there! I was playing around a bit with the thought of tuning my guitar to the aforementioned tuning - has anyone around here played around with it before? Solowise it shouldn't be that hard to adapt the scales to the new interval (fourth-fifth), but I'm wondering what the effect would be when adding in major or minor thirds, sevenths and the likes to chords...
I'll be watching this one! Also, I'm wondering whether anyone's tried tuning down this low before. I've got a "25.5 RG7321, and was planning on using a .070 for the low G. I'd go lighter, but I want to have enough tension to shred without having to use an excessively light touch.

I have never tried this tuning, but a 25,5" neck for a low G wouldn't work too well I believe. Would be sloppy...I tune my 27" to G sometimes, and that pretty much as low as I can go on my 27". But then again...it's all personal prefrence, there will def be some intonation issues tho heh :-)
from what I have gathered for messin with low tunings is...25.5" necks no lower than A, 27" no lower then G, and haven't tried this...but I've heard for 30" no lower then E...man I wish Ibanez would have released their 8 string with a 30" neck...but thats a diff topic alltogether :-D

Ha ha, word travels fast... I was the one who wrote that.

Anyway, I tried out tuning to GCGCFAD yesterday - apart from swelling and some intonation issues, it actually sounded pretty rad. The low G was an .064. I'll buy the appropriate strings for going GCGCGCG with the next batch! I think I'll go .066 or .068 for the low G - the thinner, the better, soundwise, but techniquewise, it gets a bit hard to shred once the tension gets looser than ~14lbs on the bottom, for me.
I really wonder what this kind of tuning does towards opening up chording possibilities. There's one thing drawing charts, another thing actually trying it out!

Try Open C instead. it's GCGCGCe.

I'd rather not - the E throws me off completely and ruins the symmetry of the tuning across the fretboard. Plus, with a high G, you get a full octave more range than a standardtuned six-string.
