got new 7 and starting to mod

Hi i just recently got an ibanez rg7421,(after already having one some years ago, and going thru a universe that i sold too)
and i had two emg (707 and 81-7) pickups and a guitar expander, in my closet for almost a year(bought for the universe but never installed them) and i took them out fro install them into this new guitar.
Now im starting to modify this rg7421, and need some advice of people that already did this emg mod. ill use a foredom tool, (its like a dremel) for routing the pickups.
need also some advice on wiring, the two humbuckers, and guitar expander, with one volume, one tone, and the expander control. with a 3 way switch or a 5 way switch(5 or 3 positions the one you can help me with)

ill do some fast paint job too, with spray cans, im thinking of a camouflage paint, i saw some camo paint at home depot.

the guitar paint its not in good condition( the guitar itself is at a 100% of its working condition)

thanks a lot!, any help will be greatly aprecciated!

With the EMGs you'd probably only be able to use a 3 way combo. Those EMG pickups aren't splitable.

I think EMG has all kinds of wiring diagrams on their website for their pickups.

Re: got new 7 and starting to mod

3 way seems to be the way to go, but if you have one setting bridge, one neck, one neck+bridge in parallel and one in series that gives you 4. After that you just need to find one other setting you'd like (maybe even an out of phase if that's possible with actives)

Get a vlx91 switch (the ridiculous one that you need a phd to figure out) and you're off!

As for the expander, depends if it has a tone control, otherwise i'd just get rid of the tone and put the expander in it's place, but seeing as you are already doing the routing...

Anyway, just needs a browse of the EMG website and researching some EMG wiring possibilities and it'll all be good!

More pics

im using this polyurethane protective clear finish, satin.
what do you think about this?
i already gave it the first coat, then ill give it a little sand with a 400 sand paper, then another coat, until i got some several coats.

It looks good with the EMGs in there. Not so sure about the finish, maybe with the clear, it'll look hot. Nice job.

Re: got new 7 and starting to mod

Yeah,i also think it'll look nicer with a gloss lacquer on it.

I think the colour scheme just won't 'come alive' with a satin clear-coat.

Nice work so far though!

Re: got new 7 and starting to mod

Here it is finished.

By the way nevermind the orange knob (emg guitar expander) ill be changin it, thats because i didnt found one black that i had somewhere. it will be black, or black with white numbrers or something cool i find.

Ill be using .010-.-58 strings on this monster, i already tested and sounds really killer. the low b just got balls and punch, lots of punch( and that just tested on a home stereo, and small 8" speaker behringer practice amp) cant wait to go to the rehearsal, to play it thru my amp!

well hope you enjoy this kinda of picture history.
