Help me choose a 7 string

I'm in the market to buy my first 7 string, and I'm having a hard time deciding what to get. I would prefer somthing under $1000, but I could possibly go over. I've been looking at the RG1527, the UV777, and the Carvin DC727. I've played a few Ibanez 7 strings, and I know I like the way they feel. I'm not shure about the Carvin though. I really love the way it looks, but I can't try one out. Can anyone who has played one tell me how they feel, and how they compare to Ibanez? Also, do UV's feel better than RG's ?

I own a RG1527 and can say its definatly an excellent buy. Great neck, And the Edge Pro trem is probably the best trem out there.
Thats all I can really sau

Just so you know, Carvin does have a return policy if you don't like it.

you might consider the old RG7620 too
but if you're gonna go high class my vote goes to the UV
also the new edge pro trem isn't always a pro or con for some people,
many still prefer the old lopro

i still prefer the old lo-pro/edge too. the new ones are just to scary!

my best advice: go in various shops. sit for more than an hour (if possible) playing various models. see if you really like what the 7string guitar has to offer. if it really suits you, if you have a real use of the added low string.
if you're definitely going to buy one, i'd say get something around $1000 or maybe a little more (if you can of course!): my first seven string is my 2027. check ibanez japan, they have the rg8527 which is awesome! it smells like a little rg7ct!

the uv's fretboard is great! smooth, good fast frets etc. but the overall neck is a huge block of rock. i cant play that thing lol!

Its a tough decision. I'm leaning towards the RG1527, but I freakin love the way the Carvins look I was also thinkin about an EBMM Petrucci 7 string, I wonder what kind of price tag I would be looking at for one with none of the extra options, or possibly a used one?

There's usually a UV or two on a certain online auction site that are somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,000

A JP 7, bare bones, will probably run about $1500-$1700 new.

Just bought guitar #5 from this auction site tonight... got lucky because it's a forum member here who was selling it... but I've only had one bad experience, and that was with the first, a 555WH, which I'm shipping off monday. Regardless of what you do, just make sure you do a LOT of research on what you want... you may have to wait a while before you get what you want, but sometimes patience seriously pays off.

Its between the rg1527 or the uv777 now. I can buy the rg1527 now, but it would be a while before i could get a uv777. I'm not shure if I should go ahead with the rg or wait.

Check out the Schecter USA 7's formerly from Drum City GuitarLand being sold now on ebay. I bought two and they are insanely nice guitars. These are one-of-a-kind USA custom shop guitars that originally sold for over $2-3K and are going for just over $1K now. As good if not better than any Ibanez I've owned or played (including a UV777BK, RG7CT, and a RG2027).

Here's some pics of my two:

Looks will always be a personal opinion / preference.

In my humble opinion, the beauty of Schecters is that they are one-of-a-kind and that they go far beyond the standard woods and solid color finishes other manufactures solely produce.

The quality of their guitars is second to none. The detail of their work is amazing - perfect fret work, flawless finishes, air tight neck joints, beautiful woods. Truly custom USA hand-built guitars which, due to the decline in the 7 string market, are going for a fraction of the price these guitars originally commanded.

Anyone contemplating obtaining a higher-end 7 string owes it to themselves to at least check them out.

I think it's important to distinguish between the Schecter USA California Customs and the import Diamond Series. Most of us here are referring to the Diamond Series, as most of us can only afford production-line instruments.

Those Schecter USA 7's are gorgeous, rlintz!
