Herc Fede Necks? Anyone have one?

Hi all,

I'm having Herc Fede's luthier build me a 7 string neck and was wondering if anyone has ever ordered a neck from him. I can't find any posts on the net about the necks - just the bodies.

So - if any of you have one please let me know how it worked out for you. Feel, stability, you know - all that good stuff!

Thanks!!

Hey man...I'm in need of a 7-string neck and haven't had any takers on the project.
Will you email me with your specs you requested, the ETA you were given and the price?

Re: Herc Fede Necks? Anyone have one?

This person from Twee beay kinda illustrates the problems with people trying to reproduce jem necks.

There are several flaws that I want to point out to you so that there are NO suprises
1. The neck was shipped from Herc with a thumb heel on the back behind the nut (similar to an RGT42 neck). This was sanded off with less than perfect results. It isn't awful, but you can feel and see some wavyness where it was. Some time and patience could more than likely smooth this out though. (See Pictures)
2. The headstock has two places where the clearcoat has lifted from the tree screws being installed. Also there is a place in the middle of the swirl where you can see a faint "drip" in the clear finish just above the Ibanez logo. (See Pictures)
3. The fretboard has a putty filled hole on the nineteenth fret where the drilling for the neck bolts went to far. This does not affect stability, but there is a spec about 2mm across on the this fret. (See Picture)
4. The third fret has a pretty deep string indentation in it. You will probably want to file this down. It was caused by the neck being set against the edge of a table on this fret while the thumb heel was sanded down.
5. The bubinga stipe is not perfectly centered. You can see this in the pictures, and while I've seen 570 necks with similar bubingas I just wanted you to know.
6. The neck is not perfectly 43mm at the nut, it is probably around 42 mm. This may sound picky, but when you put a lock nut on it, it won't be perfectly flush.
