I need guitar advice - What type of guitar should I buy?

Hi everyone. I found this site when I was searching for Fender guitars on Yahoo. I know absolutely nothing about guitars, except for that I really want to learn how to play one. The thing is, I don't know what kind to buy. I think I want an electric/acoustic, and since Fender is one of the only brands I've heard of, I was thinking about buying a Telecoustic. After reading a few posts, it seems that maybe I shouldn't buy that model, since many of you had negative comments about it. Anyways, I'd just like some advice about what electric/acoustic is best for a total beginner like me. Thanks in advance for the help : )

In order for us to really give you good honest advice, we'd want to have an idea of your budget.
Admitedly, many of us in here are kind of partial to Ibanez, but can steer you in whatever direction will suit you best.

Well, since I'm only 15 and don't have a job, I'd say the most I could pay is around $300. Can you even get a decent guitar for that much?

The teleacoustic would be fine for a beginer guitar.
The reason a lot of us do not like it is that we are use to guitars that are built for way more money and higher standards. I've found much of the members of this site to enjoy the finer guitars in life I am one of those. Ask around and most of us will tell you that our first guitar was way worse than a telecoustic.
Ive played it and the stratacoustic or however you spell that. The necks are kinda a highbred between a Strat electric neck, and the high action of a acoustic. Therefore not feeling quite the same as any other guitar. Shoot i wouldnt mind having one of my own. Its one of those guitars you take to partys to fool around with.

If you're considering the Fender Telecoustic, you might want to see if you can find a Godin Acousticaster second-hand. They're more solid-body than hollow-body, but they're very lively, great-sounding instruments and they work extremely well on stage.
