I need help!
Hi,
I am new to this forum
and I need some help.
I really really want a new 7 string. But I am not a whammy bar guy at all! So I know that xes out most Ibanezes besides these 2, the Ibanez RG7321
and the RG 742I XL(which I believe is discontinued)
Any help is greatly apriciated!

Hmmm. I'm not sure what exactly you wanted help on, but I'll take a stab at everything. If you want one of the Ibanez's mentioned, I would go with the RG7421XL because in my opinion it is simply a better guitar than the 321.
As for other companies 7 strings, there are a few to choose from:
Carvin: Pretty much custom made
ESP: They have one signature model that's a 7 string.
Schecter: They make 7's and have a few different models I believe.

Hmm, I think you answered your own question...The 7421 is a good guitar and you should be able to score one used without a bigger problem.

I guess I was wondering if there are any other Ibaneze 7s with out a whammy bar. besides the 2 I mentioned. also have any of you played either of them? opinions on them would help. btw my style is....(like
rusty cooley
meets
zakk wylde
meets petrucci (I guess) but I am very used to a Les Paul since it is my main axe. not that I fear playin a totally diffrent type of axe just to help give you guys some idea of what Im lookin for.
Also I cant find the rg7421 XL although there is one on ebay but its kinda beat up and a bacd color

Well, I haven't tried it myself, but if you also want an extended scale, I'd go for the RG2077XL, that's supposed to be an awesome axe

There's the AX7221, which might feel closer to what you're accustomed to, being a
Les Paul
player. It's got a beefier neck than the RGs, heavy
mahogany body
, two humbuckers with dual volume and tone controls.

ooops...misread ur post...it was without whammy bar hehe, yea I agree with Darren, the AX7221 is pretty good for the price. I have one and I love it, got awesome sound with an EMS 707 in it. The only thing I don't like is that the neck is heavier than the body, but you get used to it

hmm.. shred, id say an evolution 7, blaze, blaze custom,
tone zone
, EMG 707, any of those will do, btw, the pickups on the 7321 are poop, thin, muddy, nasty...

Now analog, it's hard to be thin and muddy at the same time. Are you sure you're not exaggerating a little?

yea what gives I read all the reviews possible on this axe, and 90% of the reviews said the pups were pretty good. I am sure I will change em.
any other suggestions? I want a tone like petrucci's but with more out put, what would that be or this tone is cool to me........

Grindfeind, absolutely not, thin and muddy tone is VERY common. my tone (although at its best) with the 7321 is really blubby and really tunnel sounding thin, no midrange punch

P-up wise I would have recomended 707's , or even better 7-81's if you can get your hands on them. they're still pretty rare. They'll give something not petrucci'ish, but nice and loud, very clear. If you mess on with your amp for long enough you can probably find a good emulation of his sound. If petrucci sound is Really important I'd recomend blaze customs, or air norton/ tone zone combinations.
As for the guitar, I'd have tried to have tracked down a japanese RG15271.
it's bassically the same as a 1527, but with a
fixed bridge
, I find the RG321 neck just a squeeze too thin, the 1527 neck feels more like a universe profile neck, which makes me like a lot! lol
