Ibanez 7-strings in Japan

Ok, I've been wanting a 7-string for a long time (if you didn't know this, you must be a newbie ) and have a few questions:

1) How much of a tone difference does Mahogany vs. Basswood make?
2) How much would it be to import an RG-1077XL or RG-2127?
3) How different do the pickups in the RG2127 sound compared to those in the 7620?

Mahogany and Basswood tonally are pretty opposite.

Mahogany tends to be more midrangey with lots of mid-highs and not a lot of low. Basswood tends to be more bassy with soft highs and a natural mid scoop. They both weigh about the same.

Pickups? I have yet to hear stock Ibanez pickups I like (or any stockers that I really like for that matter). I generally write that off and replace them not long after I get the guitars.

Check www.ishibashi.com and ask them for a quote. I got a few quotes and the give you a total for the guitar, case and shipping.

hmm. up till now I always thought mahogany is monster heavy and basswood is really really light...my ESP weighs around 8 lbs

Well I guess weight of basswood varies a lot more now that you mention it.

I've played some really light ones and some amazingly heavy ones. I was just averaging it out.

Yeah Rich told me that aren't any hidden costs with Ishibashi. I just thought it was too good to be true.

But it looks as though the price of the guitar, plus 17,000 yen for shipping in a hardshell, + 3000 yen wire transfer fee is the deal. Not too bad at all.

Think about it though. Do the customs rates really matter? Not really. You have to pay it either way if you want.

My point was, Ishibashi will give you a total. Signed, sealed, delivered.

Simple as that.

Of course they matter. If it's shipped in by any normal carrier (UPS, FedEx, DHL, Chronopost, etc.) you'll get tagged with 10% and a brokerage fee! I paid $347 on a guitar from France I wasn't expecting to have to pay.

I believe Ishibashi uses EMS which basically goes to the post office here in the US. When I bought a guitar from them, there was no customs charge or brokers fee. I just wire transferred the amt Ishibashi was charging to their bank and the guitar came to my post office a few days later.

Was it in good shape when it came? I've heard they're pretty good.
