Re: Ibanez 8 string???

I've seen the shorter video of that that doesn't get far enough to mention the scale, he doesn't sound all that sure about the scale but I'll go along with what he said

I wouldn't trust Hagström's word in this, actually.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

Neither Fredrik nor Mårten are very into guitar specs or stuff like that (they don't care that much), and both have been known to supply contradictory info in the past.

So no, I wouldn't trust that blindly. I'm not saying he's wrong either.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

I think some people are giving Meshuggah a bit too much credit. They basically just play really low and chug chug chug in start/stop rhythms and time signatures. This is the formula for a whole lot of their songs, and they can get rather monotonous. I could name several other bands that are more complex and more interesting to listen to.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

you should try to listen to DEI or Fredrik's Sol Niger Within... less chug, more thoughtful guitar.

Compaired to regular RG-7 you can see the upperhorn swoop to be a little less deep/wide than normal RG swoop.....

But the neck.....and this is what's bugging me. The neck looks almost like regular RG-7 neck. I mean, it's not huge like the 8s I have seen from others (LGM et al.)

Seem the string spacing is more compact......

Not even asking where he might have gotten that top-nut and trem, cause bet they are custom jobs.
Yeah, Meshuggah has those custom made. As far as the neck specs, I think it's a little wider than a wizard-7, you can tell by the locking nut...there are four blocks as opposed to a seven-strings normal three. To see more of Meshuggah's eight strings, go to www.nevbornguitars.com and check out the Sliepner I and the Sliepner XL (designed for Meshuggah).

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

Erm. It just looks that way because... the necks have a longer scale.
And Ibanez 7s have 4 locking nut block screws (the middle block is a "double block").

The string spacing on the Ibanez 8s is definitely the same because the bridge is manufactured from two fixed Lo-Pros (as on that Dino Cazares guitar) cut in half (well, not truly in half, but 4 saddles from each).

i dont think ibanez actually cut fixed lo-pro's in half.. they just manufactured an 8-string one the same way the would for a 6 or a 7 string one.. they obviously have the machinery to do so.
