Re: Ibanez 8 string???

It looks like the bridge is definitely two Edge-FX bridges cut and spliced together. I'm sure Dino's last custom shop Ibanez had a 7-string Edge-FX on it, but was it also based on a modified LoPro?

Is the build quality sloppy, or have these guitars just been beaten up on the road? It could just be the prototype build quality... i remember seeing photos of Satriani's first mahogany 7-string prototype, and it looked pretty rough as well.

Thats a very good point - and that did pass my mind. And I doubt the guys from Messhuggah take care of their guitars, lol......do you? With the type of music they play, they are bound to get beaten.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

I think it's maybe a combo of build quality and wear and tear.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

They're just protos right? Protos are like almost never built to full quality. Its just something to try out. I bet Ibanez is gonna start building those exclusively for Fredrik and Marten, if they havent already.

My Dino has a Lo-Pro which was (seriously!)blocked by the Custom Shop when it was built but i've seen one which had what appeared to be an FX-Edge but on closer inspection it was a Lo-pro whic had the lugs filed out and re-shaped to fit on to FX-Edge type bridge posts.
It also had the trem block removed and was mounted in a shallow route like the FX-edges are.

I've haven't seen any of Dino's guitars which has an actual FX-edge fitted but as he hasn't been seen playing recently it's hard to know if he's had any newer LACS guitars built with the modified(7 string) FX-Edge.

No, that's not mine but i know who's got it.

It hasn't got an FX-Edge, it's the modified Lo-Pro Edge with the trem-block removed and the pivot lugs filed and re-shaped.

This one is mine.

It doesn't take much for me to get the pictures out.

These were purely for demonstration purposes of course.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

I don't understand why they modified the Lo-Pro Edge for that, why not just put in the FX-Edge or there isn't a 7 string version of it?

Regards

André

Nope, no 7 string FX-Edge available.

The only one i've seen that was different to the normal 6 string one (like the one on the JS2000)is the 8-string one that is two FX-Edges cut in half (so there's a set of four saddles on each half)and stuck back together to make the 8-string FX.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

I'm sure that Dino had a couple of custom Universes with modded scratchplates for 1 EMG-707.

If that's so, then he must have had Lo-pro7s, not FX-Edge7s

yup.. I've seen a few pics of just a UV777BK modded with a black pickguard for one EMG and one knob. I think he just left everything else alone, like kept the Lo-Pro.
