Ibanez 8 string???

Please have a look at the following pics of this Ibanez 8 string....

Compaired to regular RG-7 you can see the upperhorn swoop to be a little less deep/wide than normal RG swoop.....

But the neck.....and this is what's bugging me. The neck looks almost like regular RG-7 neck. I mean, it's not huge like the 8s I have seen from others (LGM et al.)

Seem the string spacing is more compact......

Not even asking where he might have gotten that top-nut and trem, cause bet they are custom jobs.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

The cutaways are the same. They just look different in relation to the neck because those 8s have a really long scale length.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

The strings almost look too close together to be playable. The LGM's look easier.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

From the other thread in this area, I have read it's a 30" scale length neck.
Now it makes more sence, to me.

The 30" scale length is giving this huge neck....a rather long and "slim" appearance. I really like the look of it.

Not sure though what this longer neck will have of advantage over a 27" neck.

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

30" will give the thing a more bass-guitar feel, which is the thing that meshuggah are heading for, with more single note stuff.

Edit: But what about the high Eb? I`m puzzled, maybe 008 string?

Ok, I'll grant ya what he's doing in these pics looks pretty simplictic, but I'm asumming you've heard some Mesh, right? These guys are about as far from one-finger powerchord hacks as they come.

I really don't think they look THAT thin- I'm sure they're slightly more compressed than a 7,. but no more than the difference between a 7 and a 6.

Those are the best pics I've seen yet of the 8's, though- score.

So a low string below the usual low 7th string.......awesome, would love to have a go on one. It confuses most other guitarist/bass players if they are trying to follow you with 7 strings, 8 would be excellent

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

Ever since I stumbled upon this link:

http://www.capitaledumetal.com/index....jsp%3Fid%3D87

on extendedrangeguitar.com, this 8-string Ibanez has been buggin me.
The more I look at it....the more I want one.

And now knowing it's a 30" scale guitar.......what nut size is on that thing.....

43 mm - 6 string
48 mm - 7 string

so logically.....this should have a 53 mm wide nut at the top of the neck, but this one seems more like 50 mm or so. The strings look closer together then normal.......but I guess not sure what is normal anymore after seeing this thing......

My 6 string seems so flipsy, all of a sudden. ;-(

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

Like mentioned, the neck is friggin wide, it justs seems alot more narrow `cos of the scale length. Their Nevborn 7s are 28", and their Ibanezes are 27", except for their Universes, which they used 1995ish

Re: Ibanez 8 string???

hint:

43/6= 7.1666...
48/7= 6.8571

7.1666/6.8571= .9568

6.8571*.9568= 6.5609

6.5609*8= 52.4872

Hmm. That was supposed to come out as 50mm, so I could feel like a smart-arse. Oh well... It's possible there's no relationship between the 6 and 7 change and the 7 and 8- could be the longer scale is making it look narrower than it actually is...?
