Ibanez nerds / experts... help me identify

Need a beater 7 string and am going to look at an unknown 7 string tonite. I THINK it is a 7621, but it might be a 7421. I need help to know what to look for to determine exactly what it is.

Serial number is Japan F99288XX

I looked at the chart here on jemsite, and it could be either a 7421 or 7621. Only diff being pickups, (which look the same), and 3 piece neck vs. 1 piece neck.

Is there a foolproof, surefire way to know which one it is? Thanks. Free autographed 8x10 glossy photo of guitar genius/technique master Tom Delonge of Blink182 to whoever can help me ass-ertain this info.

Check the pups and I think the 76's were made in Japan. The 74's not sure where they were made

74s are japanese as well. What color is it? 76s only came in black and white. 74s came in bk, cf and I believe gp. Basicially the same axe anyway cept for the pups.

The color is black... what ID am I looking for on the pups. I dont think the dude will mind if I temporarily loosen and pull up one of the pickups to check.

If it has dimarzio looking pole pieces, it is the 76. If its a 74 it will have the stock ibanez p-ups. I suspect its a 76. The serial indicates its a 99, and I don't think the 74s came out till 00. I could be wrong though. I own 2 7421s and they are quite good for tne $ though. So, if its a 74 and the price is right, don't sweat it. Just pop in a new set of p-ups.
I hope that was helpfull.

Not slams... compliments. Bein' a Nerd is a good thing, right? And everyone knows Tom Delonge taught Vai how to sweep tap.

I don't mind being called a nerd, cuz I am one. But the Tom Delonge thing is a little unorthodox.

Elitist? Maybe.
Nerd? Absolutely.
But Tom teaching anybody anything? Hmmm...maybe a 4-yr. old how to do up the velcro laces on his shoes.

"unorthodox"? That's putting it mildly. LOL

I was waiting for someone to come in and say something humerous to that affect. Should've known by now it'd be you.

Sooooooo... I bought the unknown seven string. The entire thing is apart right now, ready to be sanded, and a quilt top veneer put on. It IS an RG7621. The Dimarzio pickups are labled as B2 (bridge) and N2 (neck). I assume this means Blaze II? I still have no clue what pickups they are, but they fkin kick ass. The bridge is raging, and the 5-way selector can dial up some seriously tasty clean tones.

Here is the best part. Paid $180 for her with the case. =) Great guitar. I'll post before and after pics when I get her done.

Do they have a "DIMARZIO" stamp on the bobbins on the face of the pickups?
Is there a "DPxxx" number stamped into the back of the pickups?

That's referred to as a "huge score". :-)

Nope.. no lil' dimarzio logo on bottom right corner of top of pickup. Just on the BACK of the pups... labeled DIMARZIO USA and B2 for the bridge pup, and N2 for the neck pup. If the little chart on this site is right, they are the Dimarzio New 7 pups... same ones used on their higher end 7 strings. They kick ass, and I don't think i will be replacing them with anything... it's just not necessary.

Thanks for all the helps...

Hopefully you're not going by this "chart":
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_features/pickup.htm

The only real way to tell exactly what p/u's they are is to take a DMM to them and measure the output (in mV) for each pickup. Then take those numbers to this chart:
http://www.jemsite.com/axes/htm_feat...ckup_specs.htm
...and make your determination from there.

The lack of stamp on the front and back make me wonder if these weren't the "DiMarzio-plus-Ibanez-collaboration" 7-string pickups (Kinda like the F1-4 and C1-3 co-designed pickups found in 6's).
Just thinkin' out loud....
