Ibanez Rg7321 - is it good?

Hi there

I'm posting this in two other forums, in an attempt to get maximum exposure. Here goes -

I want a seven string. I've been playing my Ibanez RG-570 for the past five years, and while I'm no Vai, I'm not bad. I always seem to write stuff that makes me go "man, I wish I had that extra string!". About the only reasonably priced seven string is the Ibanez RG7321, which actually seems to be a really decent guitar, especially for the price. I live in South Africa, so there is really no other choice.

What I need to know is, will I regret buying it? It's got all the features I want (double hum, fixed bridge, strings through body), it seems really good, but are there any pitfalls I should be aware of?

What are your opinions of this guitar? Any comments are welcome.

Thanks

The 7321 is good, but the neck's not as nice as the higher-level guitars and the pickups aren't as good as the higher-level guitars. While they're not drastically worse, they are enough of a reason to push someone away from 7-strings altogether if they don't like them and don't realize there are other options.

And I'd argue there's more than one reasonably priced 7-string on the market.

Not in South Africa, mate. Trust me, I have explored every avenue, from want-ads, to every big guitar store, as well as the actual importers. There's only three seven strings that I can get, and they're all arriving on a big shipment in a months time - a K-7, a UV777BK and the afore-mentioned RG7321. The first two are so expensive, I'm not even going to joke about it. There's only one option - a RG7321. Oh yeah, I could get a Carvin DC727 or a 747 (I believe that's the correct model numbers), but I'm a devoted Ibanez player (maybe I'm stupid ), and the cheapest Carvin is still a lot more expensive than the 7321. Nope, Ibanez it is. Thanks though, I need all the opinions I can get.

The Ibanez RG7321 isn't bad. I have one myself and am surprised at the pickups, they actually sound kind of cool, very heavy sounding. And you can't beat a hardtail for alternate tunings and such. Overall a good value for the money.

I like my RG7321. The pickups arent too bad. quite a nice overall sound
Although I find the bridge pickup to not be particularly tight, a little too much low end on it for me.

I do prefer them the V7/V8 pickups on my 6 string RG.

And yes, having a fixed bridge really helps for different tunings and stuff.

I have one, stock pickups sound really good. I might change them for a Blaze Custom and Air Norton. Stil a great guitar, for its price, it seemed like a steal.

yup a friend of mine has one, and the pickups sound good but they are noisy, my friend has a dual rectifier and of course in that kind of amp sounds better than my universe on my peavey special 212.
so is a good guitar

if i were to go out and buy a 7 right now the 7321 would probly be it... i have no use for a tremelo, and itd be easy to hotrod out... hell for 140 bucks could have a couple of blaze pups... or for bout 200 have an EMG 81-7 and a blaze neck pup...
