Ibanez RG7420 decision..

This guy came into my work yesterday(Guitar Center)..and sold us his RG7420. It's in near mint condition(slight chip on the back) and he switched out the stock bridge pickup for an Evolution 7. The thing sounds and plays better than the store's UV777. I am gonna go for it, I can get it for $250. What do you guys think?

If it plays better than your UV777 it's a brilliant idea-especially at that price...

I'm going to be the voice of dissent here and say that for the value it isn't worth it.

The market for 7's has bottomed out. RG7620s can be found with some patience and digging for under $300. Mine was purchased from the Boston GC for $249 because.....drumroll please....no one wants 7 strings anymore. Even with a replaced pickup it isn't all that great of a deal; you'll eventually want to replace the neck pickup to match output and that'll be another fifty bucks at least bringing the grand total to $300. Now....if you try and unload a RG7420, even with aftermarket pickups, you probably won't get what you put into it.

The 7420s bridges just negate the value; they're cheap and make the string tension feel rubbery which also takes away from sustain. As soon as I started playing a Schecter C7+ and a Universe I realized what a terrible trem was on the 7420.

You can do alot better for $250 with some patience and digging....

ive got a RG420 and i love it. The only thing i dont like are the pickups. Their to muddy. If the Evo7s are not muddy then get it!
