Ibanez RG7621 or RG7421XL?

Hey guys I need a new 7-string and I can't make a decision between the RG7621 and the RG7421XL. I play mainly hard rock/metal/nu-metal, but I still play some jazz, blues, classical, and everything else sometimes too. On my current 7-string I have grown to like .10's and Light Top Heavy Bottoms (LTHB, .10-.60), I haven't tried .11's yet. I play in standard A-440 tuning 95% of the time (regular Low B tuning) so it's not like I'm tuning down any. I know for a fact once I get one of the two I want to slap in some Dimarzio Blazes right away, and I know with the 7621 this wouldn't be a problem, but I'm not so sure with the 7421XL, the routing for the pickup tabs looks different. I've heard of people putting blazes in 7421's, so I think it can be done, but it would be assuring to hear from someone here personally, because I don't want to do any body modifications or pickup modifications. What do you guys think/suggest?

The 7621 isn't being made any more, so if you have your eye on a new one, it'd be a new old-stock one or mildly used.

Your other option is the 7321.

Yeah I know the 7621 is discontinued, and from a few sites I've gathered the 7421XL may be discontinued as well. I'd rather have one of those two over the 7321 if at all possible.

I don't think you'd have to do anything to the xl. Just pop the new pups in. I personally feel its a toss up. Since you don't tune down I would get a 7621. My 2 cents. I don't dig XL scale necks anyway.

I've heard good things from a 7421XL and 1077XL (or any XL) in standard tuning. It tightens up the lower notes like mad.

OK, well i appreciate the responses so far. Times are getting tough, so I guess if a 7421 (XL or regular) or 7321 can fit Blazes I'd be willing to get one of those two, so now I guess it's just whether I want a regular neck or an XL neck. Hmm....anyone? lol

Well, Jim Soloway has played more 7s than nearly all of us, and he swears by extended-scale necks for getting proper note definition on the lower strings.

I totally love the long scale on my 7421XL. It requires a little adjustment in your playing but nothing major. The increased string tension and note definition is fabulous. I don't honestly think i'd want a regular scale 7 string after having this. And at $399 it's a heck of a lot of guitar.
