Re: Insane guitar

Any how many man hours go into shaping them worktops, not to mention they arent highly skilled workers getting payed $50 an hour to do it.

When we order the granite to go into the houses (I work for a development company) the company who does it sources the granite, shapes it and has it ready to go in under a week and the main wait is generally getting the material.

The owner himself even said once the stuff is in they can get it cut and prepared in under a day, most is done by machine.

Its a far cry from 80 hours of a skilled sculpters time. The price is high, but thats because its unique.

Didnt Vai's DNA guitar go for about the same?

Re: Insane guitar

Not sure i get that, your implying he wasnt saying they cost $4000 to make?

Komorok wasnt implying it cost $24k to make either.

I still think its a fair price, if someone wanted a piece of musical art, they could spend much more on a painting which would have cost even less to make, or they could get a functional sculpture, it looks good and its practical

That's completely irrelevant.

The DNA was a) a prototype of an extremely popular and coveted range of guitars, and b) owned by Steve Vai.

Re: Insane guitar

Komorok, I just sat through reading this entire thread for the first time. I don't know how I missed this before, but I have to say I really admire you for daring to dream and to bring your dream into reality. The world needs more "crazy dreamers" like you! The guitar is stunning!! My heartiest congratulations to you on your achievement! It's a pity you can't keep it though!!

This is what I wrote, in what seems a long time ago to me:

Would anyone be interested in owning one or try playing on one of those. I am making as much as of curiosity as of a possible way of making money. I don't think anyone in the whole world has ever done anything like this.

I am a mastercraftsman in stone so I know how to do it, but I need opinions. And if anyone has heard of a stoneguitar before I would be most greatful to hear what that person has to say.
My curiosity has been stilled now. I know what it sounds like. And I like the sound. To me this is the best sounding guitar in the world. But I am not very objective about it. This project HAS been a dream come true. And if a galleryowner believes that we can get a ridiculous amount of money for it, I will not say no. I have use for money.

Maybe I will and maybe I wont get it sold, but thats not important and not the point with this project. The most important thing to me is that I now KNOW what it sounds like.

I love stone and the stuff you can make of it. I got an idea two years ago, that I would make a guitar and now it is done. And great thanks to you guys, who have helped me on the long way. Now it is time to start the STONE-DRUMKIT-PROJECT!!!!

Roland's right. This isn't being sold as a guitar, this is being sold as a sculpture that just happens to be a playable guitar. I don't LIKE the fact that such an unique instrument is being priced well outside the hands of an average player, but I'm guessing it's too heavy for serious gigging anyway.

I'm guessing the $27k is the asking price- odds are it'll go for a bit lower, but not by THAT much.

Re: Insane guitar

Komorok, make a big sculpture of a man, like the collosus of rhodes and have him play it

Although you mite need a bigger guitar

Drew hit exactly what i was trying to say there, this thing is a true work of art that just so happens to double up and be functional at the same time.

I really wish i had the money to buy it myself, would look great on a stand in my front room
