Re: Insane guitar

Your idea is valid. Stone transmits sound faster and more accurately than wood. In the 1970's a solid granite guitar was delivered to bluesman Roy Buchanon. It weighed 35lbs. and required a special stand for stage work. Guitar Player magazine mentioned it in an article from that time. Moonstone and Othon guitars utilized a stone veneer in their models. The company I work with is making what we think is the best of all possible stone guitars. One of the coolest is the Gemstone. It was created by the same Joe Despagni who invented the Jem years ago.check out the www.stonetonemusic.com site for pictures and info. Good luck with your project!

Re: Insane guitar

As soon as I can I will provide the soundclips...

Talking about soundclips... i just recieved my M8's from Lundgren today! I am only waiting for some parts from my CNC-laser-friend, then I will be able to finish the project. That is when I get my arm out of my ass... I AM a bit tired right now. Sweden rock on tuesday. When I'm back I will hopefully hopefully complete my chosen task.

Re: Insane guitar

I was among the ones that were sceptical about a stone-guitar. But as I follow the progress, I think that it's turning out as a really successful experiment!
AWESOME work!
Keep posting pics!

Re: Insane guitar

Todays progress has been excellent! I have finished the backside of the headstock:

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5097.jpg

And the neck was a simpler task than I had expected:

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5094.jpg

But I wonder if the neck is to thick. I would gladly have your advice on this one! And remember that the fretboard will add a few more millimeters.

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5080.jpg

I also routed the outputhole. I had to fit in a separate stone for this:

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5080.jpg

And finally I need some help with the electricitystuff...

This is the schematics I have put together. I am worthless at this so i need help:

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5113.jpg

As you can see i intend to use a 500 k push-pull-potentiometer for the volume/ solo-pick-up-choice. If the switch is up I want only one coil activated in the pickup, to get a single-coil sound. And if its down both coils will be activated.

Then there is a 3-way-switch to choose neck-pick, both picks or bridge-pick.

One 500 k tone-control for each pick-up.

I don´t know if the single-coil/ both-coils- thing will cause problems for me.

Help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

And thank you everybody for all the encouragement. You have really helped me on the way.

/ Mikael

Re: Insane guitar

Hey man had a quick look at your wiring diagram

if you have drawn those pots looking head on at the lugs then the connections are backwards so that the dials will work in reverse ...

Also 0.22 (uf?) is quite a high value for a tone capacitor somewhere in the 0.04-0.01uf is a bit more usual..

Plus that diagram generally wont work... unfortunatly

Ive drawn a schematic-style diagram below assuming your using a tele style three way switch with at least two independant poles

I hope its easy enough to follow...

The 1nF capacitor accross the volume pot is a high pass filter (its not necessary but is a nice addition..

V= volume
T1 = tone 1
T2 = tone 2
J = output jack
C = common terminal on each pole

whats not shown is the trem ground and that the bridge and neck pickup green and bare wires need to go to ground also.

If you have any quesitons just ask

Steve
