Re: Insane guitar
I mailed Johan Lundgren the other day and he will send me a complete
wiring diagram
based on my demands. Now that is a really nice guy to do business with. And he also told me that there was no problem running only one coil in my pickups if I wanted to. I want to try as many sounds as I can with this beast.
I would now ask you guys for tuningadvice and ideas. Stringthickness... If you had this 28/30 " scale eightstring monster: How would you tune it and what strings would you use to achieve it? I have a vague idea that i would try to tune the 28" string to an E, but i guess it will be impossible. What I think IS possible is to tune the 30" string to a low, low, low F.
Feedback and ideas is appreciated!

On paper, at "28 you can tune to suboctave E using a .080 - getting a very comfortable 15-something pounds of tension. While I'd settle for a F# at "28 using a .074, you can definately tune to E at "28.
If you're going "30 however, by all means go down to E! On paper, yet again, you'd get 15.6lbs of tension using a .074-string. I've tried both a "30-scale and a "28-scale - while not recently, I remember that at the time I thought the "30 was too long, but the "28 was just about right. Now that I've picked up bass, however, a "30 is a walk in the park, even with scale-runs, 4-fret spanning chords and soloing. So unless you've got small or very stiff hands, go "30.
But what are the fixed specifications of the guitar right now?

Re: Insane guitar
It is a
fanned fret
design. So the high string is 28 " and the lowest string is 30". Eight strings to your disposal Roland :-)

Pretty awesome, what's it weighing in at? I wonder how it will resonate.

Re: Insane guitar
The guitar is at my home now, waiting for the fretboard. Some new pics.

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...PICT5143bb.jpg
And here is me with shoulderstrap attatched. And it doesn't feel to heavy... REALLY!!!
http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...PICT5156bb.jpg
Now... sawing cuts for the frets is the most boring thing I have ever done! NEVER again. Well, I'm done now. Time for sandpaperfinish. Woodworking just isn't as satisfying as stoneworking.

Re: Insane guitar
Wow, it really looks great. You will have to post some audio once you get everything finished. I am very curious about the tone!
