Re: Insane guitar

I have uploaded more pics now.

And I am still working on the intonation. No problems so far. My fretwork seems to be ok. But I AM trying to lower the strings as much as possible. Bar chords is still VERY hard on the first frets. As a matter of fact: impossible.

Re: Insane guitar

looks really fantastic!

The action does look like a monster!
What kind of neck angle do you have?
Will you be able to lower the nut?

Hope you manage to get that action down

Best wishes

Steve

Re: Insane guitar

I guess you might have to recess the bridge in to the body.

Re: Insane guitar

I have lowered the nut by a few mm's. That is: i have filed the stringcuts down a bit more. I have no problems with barchords anymore. I can play eightstringed chords with my ( low to high) Eb, G, C, F, Bb, Eb, G, C tuning, even though I am thinking on having a low D instead of the low Eb. Strings currently used are: D'addario XL 0,084, 0,072, 0,056, 0,044, 0,024, 0,017, 0,013, 0,010.

I am considering to lower the bridge... But I don't want to... I will wait to see what the guys at Förstärkardoktorn will say on tuesday.

Thank you for your advice everyone.

Re: Insane guitar

Judging by the pictures i would highely suggest recessing the bridge into the body. As a whole the project looks awesome, and youll def need lower action at the bridge side of the guitar and not the body. For one your making the break of the saddles alot lower than usual by having them so low on the bridge. This will reduce overall tone, and with the quality of work youve done so far, i should imagine you would have little trouble recessing the bridge

Re: Insane guitar

well, that guitar sounds like the stupidest idea i've heard. just make it out of wood and then have someone paint it to look like marble, its called marbelization. look it up.

Thats a bit harsh? have you looked at the pictures of it near completion? Its anything but stupid, the guy is a true craftsman. Just because you cant grasp the concept of change doesnt mean you need to slam the guy like that!

Re: Insane guitar

V for Vendetta gets T for Tool.

Apart from recessing the bridge (or placing a shim underneath the entire fretboart?) there's nothing else needed on the guitar to be amazing. Bummer that such a small detail which such a large impact would surface this late in the project. But with the magnitude of work, it's just a rock in the proverbial shoe.

Re: Insane guitar

That is brilliant my friend, good to see it all come together. I'll sure you'll sort out the action issue.

Judging by the pics hes just a little bit of rescession work away from getting everything sorted out. At the least a new fretboard could be installed i suppose.

Re: Insane guitar

Fine... I'll lower the bridge tomorrow... which means that I will have to resculpt one third of the overside. One hours work. The sculpting was always the simplest and funniest part of this project.

Soldering is still on tomorrow. I just HAVE GOT TO hear how it sounds. After that I'll go back to the workshop.

But I will never again make a fretboard again. Ok, if someone pays me for it... a lot... But I believe there is a lot of people out there who can work wood better than me. If I get my hands on a saw that can make cuts narrow enough in stone. I will make a fretboard in stone.
