Just got my First 7!

Hello all, first time post here...

I just got myself an RG7620, and i love it, after years of de-tuning 6 strings its great to be able to have tone, and full 6 string coverage as well as the low B when needed.

It has only got the stock pickups in it, and i've read some terrible reviews, but i didnt find them to bad at all...clean on the neck pickup was very nice, and the bridge distorts nicely, my B string is too loose, so i'll change that over to a 60 when i get the chance. Its quite versitle as well being able to play heavy riffage, to vintage 6 string and clean tunes also quite well.

The action is unreal i've always loved the thin wizard neck, and transition to the 7 from 6 has been effortless.

Well anyway i cant see myself picking up a 6 anytime soon, but what pickups would people recommend? i'm heading in the direction of proper Dimarzio Blazes, as the UV 7 has an Awesome versitle sound, which i'm after

all the best

Ben

Congrats on the guitar. I have a 7620 also. I love the way it plays and sounds with the stock pickups. I just dont play it anymore cause it got REAL beat up on the road. One of these days I will fix it up again.

rg7620

I also have an RG7620, I've had for some years (the first in my area). It's been to Herc Fede so his mastery could add the GMC paint scheme monkey grip and vine inlay, but I was unhappy with the pick ups myself, so I swapped them up for the UV pickups, while they didn't have the gain of the stock pick ups, the sound and tone, was vastly improved and I wouldn't give them up for anything.

I have the Dimarzio Tone Zone 7 in the bridge of my 2027, and the Air Norton 7 in the neck. Both are terrific pickups, and I highly recommend them

Do u have any pics of your guitar with the new paint and inlay? sounds like it would look sweet!

So your saying the Blaze dosen't have as much gain as the stocks? are you sure? i've seen alot of heavy bands play UV's with stock p'ups, and they got a hell of a sound.

I am after something with a good gain, and tone for the bridge (i play alot of very distorted heavy music), and an all out clean sound for the neck.

thinking in the direction of

(Neck)Air Norton 7 (Bridge)Dimarzio Blaze 7

I just recorded a little run on my jpm7. It'll show that a 7 doesn't slow you down nor hold you back, as some try and tell me.

Course if you really want to see that a 7 string is no limitation, check our Rusty Cooley! I'm going reverse compared to him! :-)

oh, email me if you want to hear the clip... it was recorded on a cassette player, but its not that bad. Its also very SMALL easily emailed.

I just got my first seven too, this morning. Already given it a set-up (the string height was so low it was virtually unplayable) and bought a matching red Cliplock strap. Hehe. Now I can finally get through my Dream Theater "Awake" transcription book.
