Re: Just grabbed this of the bay

Yes - I thought that looked pretty darn good - seems to need a string retainer bar behind the nut, just looking at the headstock close up on the auction - no great prob there - fantastic looking finish - congrats!

Re: Just grabbed this of the bay

750 plus 34 bucks shipping. Seems like a great deal based on what Im guessing that guy put into making it. I was just about to jump on a 1527 but this looked more promising - kinda like the wierd lovechild of a Dino LACS, a Jem 90 and a 20051. I think what intrigues me the most is the compound radius on a 7. Ill post more detailed shots as soon as I get it. (And yes the lack of string retainer is somewhat annoying Ill fix that right away.)

Is the evolution 7 any good? I havent heard too much about them.

Re: Just grabbed this of the bay

nice score! i was watching that one, curious to see how much it would go for...

and from what i've read on dimarzio.com, the evo 7 should sound like a regular evo, but the chart read a lower treble rating, so the high end wouldn't be as bity to comensate for the low b, so more like an evo2 i am assuming?

Re: Just grabbed this of the bay

Guitar came in yesterday and OMG its insane after full setup. At first I was bugged out because the action was retardedly high and I noticed the studs were locked in place from either misthreading or rust in the thread. The other thing that made me cry was that the anchors were never mounted flush (The routing was not deep enough) - they were hanging out of the body by at least 2-3mm and keeping the studs from going any lower. I pulled the guitar apart today after putting the kids to bed, yanked the anchors out by the old studs (my wife had a heart attack that I was attacking the guitar with a hammer), drilled deeper holes, and tossed some new studs in place. Bingo.

It sounded incredible not even plugged in - you know how you can hit a big open chord on a electric guitar and if all the woods and hardware like each other it rings like an acoustic? Ive never had a B string sound crisp like that. Ive owned 2 Universes and a Revolver7 and none of them sound like this guitar from low B to high E. There is something magically mis-matched freaky about it. Next experiment was plug into the Legacy and hit a big old B Major 7 chord in the lead channel - totally crisp. Cash money......

Pickup turned out to be a TZ7, and the body is extremely light Ash. The neck is oddly enough 25" scale Warmoth ebony/maple that has been routed into the aftermarket Universe body so that it intonates properly. (The neck pickup cavity was lost during this to accomodate the scale change Im assuming) totally outstanding...Im so happy after being initially horrified at the trem/setup situation.

Whats a good place to host pics for free? Ill toss up some better photos.
