Re: KORN setup? KORN sound? still trying

Anyone play in Drop A or A standard with an RG7321? I'm about to buy one, and plan on using the D'Addario ECG24-7 (11-65). Does anyone use those strings? How do they sound?

And I already bought an EMG 707 HZ-B 7 String passive Pickup on **** because it was $20 and I wasn't going to pass that up, even though I want to go the Dimarzio route. Idk if I'd put it for the neck or the bridge. If the bridge, then I'd get a Blaze for the neck. If for the neck, I'd get an Evolution for the bridge. I think.

Some of you were saying that when you tune down to A, you have to hit the string softly and not attack it. Have any of you people gone to Youtube and watched Korn live-performances? Head and Munky attack their guitars like they're any other kind of regular guitar.

Make that 5 now!

I think the easiest way to nail the Korn tone nowadays would be a Pod XT Live outputting 2 different amps.

I use Drop A as my standart tuning now and had standart A for years.
Strings from .10, .13, .17, .30, .42, .52, .60.
Like Korn does and no you don´t have to hit the trings softly...
I think if you leave the .52 string away and put something thinner in it your guitar has less string tension. But still playable!

I use GHS Boomers Zakk Wylde for a 6 string guitar(.10-.60) and buy a single 42.
You could also buy the complete 7 string set
http://www.thomann.de/de/dean_markley_2504c_lthb.htm
But i DON´T like them!!!

Korn used in their early years a blaze neck for bridge position in basswood guitars.
Now PAF in Mahagony.
I use a DiMarzio D-Sonic for bridge in my Apex1 - chainsaw!
And for my K-7 I got some Blackouts - killer...

Re: KORN setup? KORN sound? still trying

well. after watching a lot of live performances on Youtube, I've realized that Brian and Munky both "attacked" it right above the bridge pup, not above the neck pup. I'm used to playing over the neck pickup ... So I think I'll focus more on the bridge pickup

Re: KORN setup? KORN sound? still trying

I have a 70 for my A and it's lovely. It's best to play their stuff in A because everything is just so messy in drop A. Closest I ever got to their sound was with my Zoom G9.2TT. Lovely thing it is.

My guess is a big part of their sound is.... Fieldy!
Especially since they're so low in the audio spectrum.
