LA Custom Shop S7

I picked up this LACS S-7 last week. It's neck-through, mahogany body with a flame maple cap, and a 3-piece presumably maple neck with a scarf joint. The body is a lot thicker than my 540S7s [and heavier], the maple cap is really thick, and the headstock is so thick that the string holes in the tuning machines are almost covered up!

It's got custom wound DiMarzios, H/S/H, but a lame switching system with push/pull pots to coil cut instead of using the other side of the 5-way to do it automatically like a JEM. I'll drop in a Megaswitch if I can get it through the thicker body slot, or just rewire the existing switch to JEM specs.

I got it from David Fiuczynski of Screaming Headless Torsos, who happens to be one of my favorite guitarists because he can write as well as he can play (a rare skill). I don't know why they made it for him, I didn't know he was into 7-strings at all -- he usually plays a doubleneck Artist with a fretted neck and a fretless one. Anyone interested in funky fusion or just unique writing and playing should check him out.

Glad to help spread the word! Screaming Headless Torsos was his breakthrough band, but now Fuze has half a dozen different projects. His versatility is uniquely skilled -- some rock guys try to dabble in jazz, like me, but he really understands both and can mix them on a level that few others can. And he still rocks!

Nice axe! It's too bad there's so few high quality unique 7's out there like this one and other stuff from ESP, Tom Anderson, or Schecter.

oh man.... now how about ibanez makes one a those instead of a s7420. which reminds me, i gotta pick one of those up (s7420) and do some major work on it.

fatherhood, i wouldnt trade it for anything, except for some mag wheels... man that would be sweet

That is a nice guitar. The 22 frets make the front p/u sound that much better, I'll bet.

I've been a torsos fan for a while now, try getting the live album or the '95 studio album, all great stuff but hard to find...the instrumental "Amandla" and his other projects like Kif, Cherry Acid Lab, or Lunar Crush with John Medeski are great too: http://www.torsos.com/index.html

And, to stay on topic, it's a very nice guitar

(PS: That would make it 1000 posts for me )

Re: LA Custom Shop S7

i recorded scratch guitar with the LACS S7 last week while we were tracking drums and bass for the next _actual time_ EP. the guitar weighs a ton but it sounds great.

the middle single coil sounds so good alone that i can't bring myself to put in a Megaswitch. i rewired the 5-way to JEM specs, and used the push/pull tone pot as a "strat" switch to activate the bridge coil of the bridge HB and the neck coil of the neck HB, for sharp single coil sounds. i can post details on that for anyone who wants to wire their JEM that way.

PS -- fiuczynski's latest record "KIF" is phat!!
