Btw - anyone who knows of a place that makes a RG7620 pickguard please PM me. I am looking to get a black one for this baby.

Upcoming mod : monkey grip

The evo7s are kinda different from the standards.

I find the evo7s to be the clearest and crunchiest pups for a 7 string pup out of all dimarzios. I have tried a paf7, tz, air norton, Blaze custom and finally the evo. the evo is awesome for highs and tight bass stuff.

I can play any korn riff without it getting muddy. Btw glad you guys love the guitar. I still think I should put on a pick guard because my insane picking is gonna scratch my finish.

Are those hot pink bobbin toppers? Guitar looks killer reguardless. I'll post up pics of mine when it's done by Sims Custom Shop this summer. I am getting the PAW ADT swirl done currently, monkey grip and lion claw installed. I am sticking with the stock pups, so toppers will go on instead. I am also considering an OFR for the trem.

Yeah those are toppers from Brian at universal jems. I had to use those as Dimarzio doesnt make pink evo7s or other 7 string pups.

I too want a monkey grip and will put one in when I get my hands on a dremel. Hoping to get a pick guard soon.

A couple of questions for 'ya
How durable are the toppers? I have heard that they start to wear off over time. I really don't play over the pickups, so I'm guessing that this won't cause much of a problem.
Can you take a close-up picture of them so I can see how much of the black pickup they cover?
Do they just stick on like a vinyl decal?
Where did you get your knobs and switch from and at what price?
Thanks for the info.

Re: Let's see your custom modded 7 string Ibanezes?

The toppers are pretty durable - I dont play over pups so mine dont wear. I had a pair of white bobbins on there before the pink and they were perfect. They cover most of the string holes. I mean some of the bobbins dont always fit the pup perfectly.

I got the knobs and switch from **** for like $12.

Re: Let's see your custom modded 7 string Ibanezes?

Bumping an older thread to show off my seven:

The body started out as an RG520QS. I filled the Floyd rout with mahogany, routed it for a seven string neck and pickups, then refinished. Neck is from evilBay, and I refinished it to match.

Features:
ETS bridge
EMG 707/81-7 pickups
Planet Waves auto-trim tuners
Dunlop Straplocks

The brass nut has been changed to a black one since the pictures were taken, and I added the missing (black) switch tip.

Re: Let's see your custom modded 7 string Ibanezes?

To answer a couple questions:

The neck came to me without a nut, so I made one out of brass. I've made a couple of these before, and they're turned out very nicely. This one was going great until I screwed up the slotting. I didn't feel like making a new one, so I just bought a black locking nut. That's what's on the guitar now. I don't use the locking screws, though. I don't need them since the guitar already has locking tuners.

I couldn't leave the natural QS finish because the fills for the Floyd rout would have been visible. I suppose I could have put a veneer top over it, but I already have a couple very nice natural and dyed finish instruments, so I didn't have a huge urge to do another one (though my next two guitars will feature translucent finishes). Basically I planned for this one to be black from the outset... black hardware, black pickups, black finish. If I could have found one, I would have used a neck with a blank ebony board, too.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments. I'm very proud of this guitar.

Edit: I've got a build thread for this thing on a different forum: http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/in...pic=27107&st=0
