Looking for a 7 string got ?'s

I have been thinking alot lately about 7 strings. I have played one. The korn model(dont ask). Whats the difference between the 1527,7620 and 7420. I really want a Universe but am not willing to shell out the money for something that I might not stick with.

Re: Looking for a 7 string got ?'s

they all have dfferent tremolos with 7420 having a not so good one and the others two having good trems. korn played 7620 but later created their own model k7 (discontinued). 7620 has dimarzio pickups, 7420 & 1527 have ibanez pickups. here are specs for all korn 7 strings

If you can get a used 7620 it's a great way to go.

MIJ, LoPro Edge 7 trem, DiMarzio New 7 pups and Wizard 7 neck. Always used ones on the bay, and if you don't like it they hold their resale value pretty well.

Other than the inlays, the K7's are great guitars. Mahogany bodies sound great with 7 strings.

Good decision - I love my PWH, but I'd never have spent that kind of cash on a seven if I didn't already know I actually prefer the feel of a seven string neck.

the 7420 and 7620 are both out of production, but widely available used. The 7420 has Ibanez pickups and a Lo-TRS7 trem (which, while no Edge, seems to be a bit more well made and hold tune better than the six string lo-TRS, for some reason. It makes no sense, but I've heard it from too many people who I trust to discount). The 7620, meanwhile, has Dimarzio New7's (which actually aren't bad pickups - I'm pretty sure they're the same as the custom-wound Dimarzios for the CST, and are voiced the same as the six string Ibanez/Dimarzio customs in production now. A lot of people really like the neck, but to be fair the bridge is happier in mahogany than basswood) and a Lo-Pro Edge 7 trem.

The 1527 is currently in production - it's basically a 7620 without the Dimarzios and with the Edge Pro 7.

The 7620 is arguably the best buy, as they're rather affordable secondhand, and it's a totally pro-quality guitar (original list was $1300). However, you can't get them new and it's becoming harder to find them for sale (most people with them aren't selling, and they've been the basis of a lot of seven string project guitars), so the still relatively affordable 1527 might be easier to grab. However, by that point ($800 new), you're almost to what you can grab a player UV777BK or 7BK for if you get lucky.

If you just want to see if you like sevens or not, maybe a 7321? They're cheap (I've seen them used for less than $300) and I found the neck surprisingly comfortable. The pickups aren't exactly inspiring, but that's an easy fix and again if you find you're getting hooked on the added range and low end crunch of a seven, you can just look to upgrade when the time comes. It doesn't have a trem, but...

I agree. You can't go wrong with a 7620. It was my first 7 and I still have it after 9 years. While my UVs are my main players these days, the 7620 is a great guitar. Keep a lookout on e bay, there are some good deals on some decent ones sometimes. I even scored a 7620GN for 349 about 2 years ago.

Used 7620 best bang for the buck by far.

Thanks guys, Ill keep checking evilbay.I see a few guitars listed as 7620's but they look like 7420's from what I have read. I might just grab a 7321 I have seen them for under 200,kinda had my heart set on a trem equipped guitar though.

I kept hoping they'd get cleared out for cheap so I could buy one and have a blank maple board put on it, but so far no dice... I like the color-coordinated pickups.

It was a nice guitar for sure. I did not like the inlay or the trem bar.

A month or so ago I got the bug to get a 7 string. Never played one. Never even seen one in real life. So I figured the best one to get would be a Universe. I mean, Steve don't play junk, right. So I settled on a 777PBK, which is black (which I don't really care for to begin with), as the disappearing pyramids and that huge pyramid inlay below the trem. Bought it off the bay in mint condition, but the seller wrote me after the auction saying the neck was cracked. Long story short, I got a refund.

Been searching around again and saw one I wanted. A 7620 in a limited color, which I like because most of them you see are either black, vampire red or blue. This one was red wine, which looked pretty cool. It's in mint condition. Bought it off the bay last week. Might get here this weekend.

I think the 7620's are going to be the best 7 that isn't a signature model. It's got the same trem as the Universe too.

Anyways, if you really want a trem 7, then just wait 2, 3 weeks. There are 7620s on there all the time. If you want to see what red wine looks like, here's pics of mine: 280134537539

Best trem-equipped seven that isn't a signature, for sure - bang for the buck, they're unbeatable. If a trem isn't a big deal, though, it blows my mind that a Schecter C7 Blackjack gives you that much guitar for that little money.

Anyway, surf on over to www.sevenstring.org when you get the thing and share some pics!
