Making a 7 string set from scratch
I was thinking of making a 7 set string from scratch on a Ibanez S-7320 BK, starting with a .70
im just looking for tips really from some real hardcore guitar geeks, on what the suitable thickness on the other strings could be.
Im a hardcore/metal/j-rock/alternative head, prob has some factor;p

I have 9, 11, 16, 24w, 32w, 42w, 70w and I'm in drop A. Works nicely for me.

Re: Making a 7 string set from scratch
how do you think it would work with like...combining a .57 6string set of Ernie ball and just adding the .70 as an example

Re: Making a 7 string set from scratch
I was on 9-46 with 58, now on 9, 11, 17, 28, 38, 48, 60. Only went for 17 cos that's the only one the shop has. Would otherwise go for 16 with that G, and want to move up to a 62 on the low B.

Re: Making a 7 string set from scratch
im currently playing drop A on my six string, bought a boomer 7 string set, and just droped the .10 one, the .60 string gets kinda sloppy, it works but still...why I want to convert to a 7 string, and im thinking of trying going G drop G or whatever then, think I will have the same problem on the seven string then as I did on the six string? 25.5 neck on the S7320. And I dont have huge massive hands/fingers, so I dont dare going for a 27.5 as some of my songs include stretching

Fret Spacings still the same, the only diffrence is that the neck is set back futher up the length of the body (Well and the neck is longer... but 2" is not much). If anything has to move futher its your arm... plus if you want drop G i would say dont bother on a 25.5 and get a Bari 7 as youd be wasting your time, you would need telephone cables to keep tension and that wouldnt sound too good... besides you wont really noice the diffrence in playability, at least i dont notice it too much.
Plus for drop A most 7stringers would suggest nothing lower than a 70... i play in B standard on an RG7620 and i use a 9-46 set with a 59 for my B... most guys dont recoment anything below a 56 for a B due to tension.
