I wonder how one of those things plays, I saw some sexy home made RG stile 8 strings on here a while ago, and renemer thinking jesus, that's a wide neck.

Hopefull one day I may play one
That was me, but it has since been sold to another Jemsiter. Yes, the necks are HUGE!

Yes that is a well known fact. But they cost a bomb from them to make.
This is very rare and the first that Ibanez have made.

Not exactly. They appear to have 8-string versions of the Edge FX fixed bridge that's on the JS2000. Dino Cazares had a 7-string version of it on one of his custom shop models.

Just goes to show that Ibanez is willing to go to great lengths (and create expensive tooling) for one-off artist guitars. I would guess, though, that these one-off bridges are probably milled from a solid block of real metal, rather than cast in that 'mystery metal' like the production ones.

I'd rather have an original floyd rose. At least we all know what those're made of.

However, no floyds for me, please.

Its completely unrealistic at this stage to have a floyd-type trem on an 8 string. People have thought and thought about it. No doubt the brain boxes at Ibanez have had a few tries. I actually dont think it will ever be done. And if it does it will be very expensive, and never in production for as long as people live. But saying that, why would the 8 string players e.g. Rusty and Meshuggah need a trem for the extra strings they are using?

I like the idea of a Fixed-Edge 8-string bridge like these though.

The trem is very important to Fredrik Thordendal's soloing style. It would probably be best if he and Ibanez could work together to design a bridge system for the 8-string. Heck, even a setup with a trem on only 6 of the 8 strings would benefit him.

As far as the idea of a full 8 string trem, I can't really see it happening. It seems like it would just be too much string/spring tension for one bridge. But, you never know.

You could always split the bridge like Steve did on one of his JEMs?
