Meshuggah - 8 Strings, Baby! - doesn't really belong here, b

Meshuggah's new custom 8-stringers built by some Swede "in the middle of the woods" as Fredrik Thordendal so eloquently put it. They're called "Newborn". Mårten Hagström's 8 wasn't ready at the time of the photo shoot, so he's posing with a 7 of the same design. Not sure how this affects their Ibanez endorsement (they got their custom Ibanez 7-stringers last year...) and frankly, I don't care :D

Meshuggah - 8 Strings, Baby!

Re. scale length & gauges: no clue. I think they used .009-.054 (or .052?) for the 7-stringers so...maybe a .058 or .060 for the F string? Hard to say though, that might change with the scale length, and it looks a bit like it's not 25.5" though, but I'm not good at judging by pictures.

And yes, I can't wait for the new album! Tomas Haake (the drummer, that is) wasn't even sure if he would be able to pull all the stuff off :D Whoa.

Charlie Hunter's been playing an 8-string for years. *

Not quite the same style as the Meshuggah boys, but....how can you not like a dual-scale length fretboard? *:-)

theres as much a point to 8 strings as there are to 7 strings, there is no point. just play your 6 string, thats enough for everyone on earth.

Tjena Tsorovan!

Did you hear how much those guitars cost?

I read a discussion on gmf.se and a standard 7-string would cost about 1200$

Nice price for a custombuilt guitar, I think.

Fraspe: Nope, I haven't...$1200? That's not bad at all! Was that for a neck-through 7-string?

Kevan: I thought that was a multiscale fretboard and not just a dualscale?

Captain Ron: Yeah, right; try playing Fredrik Thordendal's stuff on a 6-string. That'd be hard.

That'll come in really handy when I need to hit those notes that only a high A string would give me...
