Yes i know that CH uses a fanned-fret Novax guitar/bass hybrid...all i was trying to say is that if i was to play an 8-string, i'd probably start using some bass techniques in there...But, then, you might be right, this is probably what works the best for Meshuggah

Gottcha . Charlie's style of playing is a beast! I have a hard enough time playing guitar, I don't know how the heck I'd play both guitar and bass lines at the same time. Charlie is a strange creature indeed.

Basically, 10,000 years ago if neanderthals had ibanezes, the result would sound just like meshugga.
I will just reiterate the same statement that everyone else has already made here- these guys have a grasp of polyrhythms that is just disturbing. First time I listened to "Nothing" (only CD of there's I've bought so far) I thought it was kinda cool, but everything sounded the same. Then i started to get used to the jarring polyrhythms... Once you get your head around them, these guys are freaking INSANE musicians.

The outro to "Straws Pulled at Random" is just beautiful. Even my dad agrees.

And if Meshuggah's music is sounding just like noise, try turning down the bass on your stereo a bit, cuz I found my stereo made it sound really messy and muddy.

And yea, the rhythms take a bit of getting used to. Right now, I enjoy listening to it, but I could never write stuff like that.

I mean just slightly from full, especially if you have subs, cuz they can't handle the fast rhythm sometimes. And that's only if it's sounding muddy.

Yeah, I know, just kidding.....but still..... Sacrilege! I found an eq did the trick quite nicely - get rid of that muddy bass, but keep the deep clunk and boom.

I caught that, too, but I was going to be a nice guy and not say anything! Anyway, did they use their Ibanez guitars to record the new album, ot did they have the 7 string Nevborns?

No one really knows. Sometimes they say the 8-string prototype, and other times they say the 7-strings. Doesn't really matter anyways.

Actually, here's the story direct from Fredrik & Marten themselves:

They recorded the album using the 7-string Nevborn prototypes tuned down to Low F.

Yeah, but in another interview, they said they had one 8 string prototype which had incorrect string gauges and kept going out of tune all the time (It had a pic of Marten holding a seven Nevborn, and Fredrik holding an eight).

Did you talk to them yourself?
