Metallica 7-string

On the song "Some Kind Of Monster", Jamez is using a 7-string, and I noticed it has 5 wound strings, implying very heavy guage, implying a very low tuning, however, it sounds like he's playing in drop-C, or something...anyone know what he's tuned to?

Agreed! I'd love a custom ESP F-series baritone 7-string with EMG-707s and a trans-black finish, but they don't seem to offer it anymore.

Maybe there are some seven-note chords in there.

On the St. Anger DVD, he uses a 7 for 'SKoM'...maybe it's tuned up a half-step. The only song on the DVD that the Grynch was used for was 'Invisible Kid' which is in A-flat tuning. Kirk also used a different guitar for that, a hardtail version of the 'Spider.' (also a baritone?)

The Grinch (Jamez's Baritone) is tuned to drop-Ab, they use anything from Les Pauls to their standard ESPs for their drop-C and drop-C# songs. The Grinch is used on Invisible Kid, Kirk is playing an octave higher I think.

My guess is that the 7-string has two unison, or octave strings on the bottom.
