Mushroomhead Tuning
Someone please tell me I'm wrong, and that their entire CD isn't tuned down 1/4-step...man that's irritating...

i've heard of other bands tuning down at quarter step intervals, so i'm afraid it might be accurate. . .

The thing that confuses me the most is, they're still in tune with the keyboards and samples
I'm thinking it's a post-production type thing on the album and they're in standard or something live?

I'll just say that my band uses an E-mu Proteus 2500 sound module with a keyboard and you can tune it (basically) with pitch in the module.
I always though that bands just tuned 1/4 step down or whatever just to aggrivate the people that are sitting at home trying to figure out how to play their songs.
I know it's made me a little frustrated at times.

I think perhaps probably you may be correct.

It's a good technique for low tuning metal guitars (and bassists). Loose, low tension strings bend extremely easily, even when just picking the string. I'm sure mose if not all of you have noticed the same thing
. This way, you can tune low, and still sound in-tune when you hit the strings hard. I believe Meshuggah might do this, especially on "Nothing". Don't know about Mushroom Head though, never listened to them yet.
It's also cool to hear the string(s) bend in and out of tune when you let a note/chord sustain, a definite technique on Meshuggah's "Nothing".

Mushroomhead does NOT tune to drop A lol At least not on any of the songs I tried to play, they barely hit the low-B more than once or twice.

I might be wrong, but Pantera started to play in drop C and C# until The great Southern Trendkill, but Dimebag uses lots of tunings, I think in "I'm Broken", he uses drop-D

Mushroomhead actually do use a 7-string tunning o drop A they just double up the notes by playing them high up around the 12th fret making it sound like a 6-string tunning but actually a 7-string making them sound thicker.

Really? That just doesn't seem right to me...although it explains some riffs, how do you explain "Solitaire-Unravelling", with that sweet harmonic-bend?

He sets his korg off 20 cents and tunes to standard keys like drop d, e flat, standard and so forthl. on floods hes tuned down to C# on everything but just a little lower
