My crappy LO TRS broke I need some help!!!!

Hello everyone, I’m J.D. I have a 2002 Ibanez RG-7420, which has never caused me any trouble…until now. Two of the locking saddles (higher e and b) broke, I don’t know how to explain it, the screws just doesn’t tighten anymore.

First of all, I don’t like floyds anymore (this one is fixed) so I don’t want to buy a new one that costs $200 since I won’t be getting the most of it.

I found a replacement part (http://guitarpartsdepot.com/Merchant...ry_Code=ltremp) But I don’t know if it will fit.

I found a tune o matic (http://guitarpartsdepot.com/Merchant...gory_Code=7SGP) that I’d like to consider as a choice, despise the fact that the guitar has to undergo major surgery to fill the hole, fit the new bridge, repaint it, etc. In the end I don’t even know if this bridge will fit this guitar either. I read something about this somewhere, I think it was Dino from fear factory who did it…

Bottom line: I’m lost, I don’t know what to do.

I bumped into this forum and it seemed like a good idea to post this here in case that a more experienced 7 stringer could help me out with his one.

Thanx.

just buy a 6 string version and swap out saddles or whatever there are 3 on fleabay one is at 1 and has 1 day and 8 hours.

shipping is 12.50 but it is still cheaper than new saddles you dont for sure know are going to work and it is also cheaper than any exterm mods

Re: My crappy LO TRS broke I need some help!!!!

damn!! I've been so busy cracking my head open looking for a new bridge that I didn't think of buying a used one on ****!! that thing has my name all over it heheh.

thanx jra2217!!!

I'd still like to know if someone has ever done some weird custom work with their tremolos. (Like swapping the lo trs for an original floyd rose or a tune o matic, etc.)

I've always been up for some mods. I took out those nasty stock pickups and installed a single emg 707 on the bridge and covered it with a custom pickguard. I've tuned it to A, Drop d A, Drop G, etc.

a few minutes ago I read about a guy who uses a .70 on his low B, I'd like to try that next. Right now I'm in drop A and the low A is a .65 bass string but it's too floppy for my taste.

Re: My crappy LO TRS broke I need some help!!!!

as far as mods go, there are quite a few people that have switched out trems, with little to no mod work , and quite a few people have taken normal style floyds out and put in ibanez trems like the edge and the lo pro.

when i had a seven string i hated at how floppy the low b was, i played 10-52 on a 6 string and i like bigger strings so what i did was splice two sets of string together. I would take a set of tens and a zakk wylde set of ghs strings because they are heavey and steal the low string but make it so i still had a full complet set for my six.

zakk wylde low tune boomers are 70 - 10 gauge so check them out and get a normal pack for seven strings and then take the 70 out of the wylde and then do whatever.

Re: My crappy LO TRS broke I need some help!!!!

Right now I buy a .10 6 string set and a .65 bass guitar string. i dont' want to go further than .10 on the rest on the strings because they are tuned on standard E and with heavier strings things will get ugly. I tried light top heavy bottom strings on my 6-string tuned to standard E and didn't like it.

I don't know if it sounds stupid or crazy but I think I'll try with a 6 string .10 set and that .70 string. floppy strings just freak me out.

In case anyone cares, is bored or curious or whatever, on my band's website (http://www.cubocabeza.com) there are a few mp3s where you can hear what I do with my 7 string, which is incorporating it to the sound of a hard rock band with metal, grunge, hardcore and punk influences. I think it's an original idea and I like it.

Well first off hes got an ibanez seven string so all those other bridges will definitely not work for it. Your better off having another body made if you want a tuneomatic style bridge though. the work is far too extensive, but on top of that why would you even need one if youve got the floyd blocked? Youll just loose out on tuning stabilty that way. Right now for the money youll be able to find all kinds of seven strings with tuneomatics on fleabay

Regarding the string gauges....

Go to www.juststrings.com & buy a your favorite 10 gauge string set & then an additional 70 gauge string. There's no need to spend $5-6 for a Zakk Wylde set if you only need 1 string. Buying the string seperately is cheaper.

i ment he could buy a 6 string version ans steal the two saddles he needed off of it, instead of buying saddles that you dont know if they would work right.

After reading over the post again I have a suggestion for him. Ive seen other people do this as well with much success. If he doesnt want to use the floyd anymore to avoid buying saddles and for the time being, he can just take out the locking bolt and pad that doesnt work, and string the guitar like a normal strat bridge. He just has to put the string through that little lo profile bolt hole. Of course since you cant fine tune anymore the locking nut pads should just be taken off and you also dont need the string retainer or fine tuners. It would be easier for me to explain this if I had a picture from the guys who have done this.

Re: My crappy LO TRS broke I need some help!!!!

first of all, thanx to everyone for the suggestions.

I think I'll buy an old lo trs and tear it apart.

In the meantime, since the saddles that I have right now are useless, I thought I'd experiment a little and try to make the holes a little wider in order to fit new, wider screws.

I made the holes 1mm wider and switched screws and now the guitar is ready for action. In fact, I was able to find screws that look almost identical to the ones that came with the guitar.

thank you everyone once again
