My first 7 string

I enter into the world of 7's now. Just picked up my 7 string that I won on evil bay a few days a go. It's an ESP LTD M-207. It's feels really nice, just needs some new strings on it but after 4.5 hours of motorway driving to get it I don't think have the energy to start messing around with FR trems.
Normally i'm an Ibanez man but as I have a max budget of £250 (which is what I payed for it) the only Ibanez I could find in that price range was the 7321. At one point I was thinking of getting the 7321 new but as I payed £100 less for the ESP and mines got a FR trem and cool inlays I thought I did quite well.

Lol yeah that's my sisters fault, I asked for a picture of me with my new guitar, will get another up soon. Your new 7's looking good.

Anyone had any experience with ESP 7's? How do they compare to Ibanez?

Dave

Re: My first 7 string

not having played either, from the reputations of the guitars i would expect it to be comparable quality to the rg7321 but with a floyd.

Dave.

Re: My first 7 string

Thanks guys. I'm happy with how this plays but at the moment it sounds quite muddy and I don't seem to get much natural sustain. I also seem to be having a bit of tuning stability problems.
For the sound I think after a new set of strings and pickups, which I was going to do anyway, it will sound alot better. As for the trem, I don't know how much the previous owner used it so it may just take a bit more 'breaking in'.
So only a few minor problems, other than that it's great. dc_mally I think your right about it playing like a 7321 because I played my mate brand new RG1527 which has a really nice trem and neck by comparison.

Lol I hope I can continue playing both because I have a guitar in the states being worked by Herc Fede and I intend to use that the most when it comes back

Re: My first 7 string

Throw on a set of new strings and check your intonation, might help with your tuning problem and not sounding as muddy. Personally, I love buying used gear and fixing it up, playing around to get what I like as far as the intonation, action, etc.

Me too! Since '97.
Nice guitar, sanitarium. 7-strings rule...Ibanez' anyway! Still at least you have a decent axe! I'd probably go with ESP next to Ibanez.

Re: My first 7 string

i recently went to 7 due to a bargain i found and im loving it so much i think im gonna have that many strings on all my guitars in future! i thought playability would be an issue what with the ironing-board neck but its not a problem at all! i love it!
p.s. love your strap, same as i got! satriani vai malmsteen and petrucci cant be wrong! great choice of colour aswell, great minds think alike!!

Re: My first 7 string

£250 is about $450, isn't it? If you'd been patient, you could have come by a 7421 or a 7621 (I got my 7621 for $300)... I've even seen 7620's for around $450~$500.

Neither here nor there, you'll like the ESP. It's close to an Ibanez, comfortable, but the neck is a little beefier than I like. I prefer to play 7's more for the unique chord phrasings than simply the lower extended range they have, so comfortability of the neck is paramount in my playing them.

Have fun with it.
