My home built 7 string

Hi everyone, not sure if I've posted the picture correctly, but here goes anyway. This is a 7 string which I built about 6 years ago, before they were quite so popular, just thought you might like a look.

It has:
Bound mahogany body with 5A quilted maple top - the shape is kind of a cross between a tele and an EVH musicman,
Bound 24 fret maple neck with ebony board and quilted maple headstock (tilted back like an Ibanez - not straight like a fender),
2 custom built Kent Armstrong humbuckers, each coil tapped by the volume and tone controls,
Mother of pearl scratchplate (soon to be replaced with mirror, I think),
Built in Roland Gk2-A synth pickup (on the top 6 strings), with switch and volume. It has a jack output and the synth pickup output,
Strat style fixed bridge strung through the body, and locking machineheads.

I built all of it myself apart from the fretboard which I bought pre-radiused and slotted. Even though I say so myself it is a lovely guitar, the neck is thinner round the back than my RG7620, and has stayed perfect so far - no movement in 6 years. It actually feels quite similar to my Ibanez 7's to play, and the synth is a laugh.

Anyway, now I've found the awesome jemsite and found others who share my love for all things 7 I thought you all might like a look - sorry the picture isn't very good, I may try to take some with the digital camera and upload them aswell (and the pics of my homemade blue and white swirl 7420 when it's finished).

Very cool, Serratus.

I'm not nuts about a Strat-style headstock on a 7 (esp. reverse) but it's not too bad, IMO. Apart from that (and again, even that's not very bad. Just not optimal to me. But I could easily live with it. ) the guitar looks great. I love white pickguards on flamed maple (especially with a tobacco stain). The bound neck matches it nicely. And a synth! Gotta love it.

How does it sound?

BTW, Graphtech and some other(s) make Strat style piezo bridge saddles for use with Roland and MIDI systems. Supposed to have better sound and latency than magnetic hex pickups.

Thanks guys for your kind words. I agree that normally I don't like fender style headstocks on 7 strings but I think that's because they're normally 7 a side, wheras mine has 6 in the usual place and the 7th on the other side. That allowed me to keep the headstock more in proportion to a normal 6 string fender headstock.

That fretboard looks just delicious, I could eat it let alone play it! Thats a very nice guitar, I just dont like the rounded body too much, I would have had sharp horns and a smaller scratchplate. But it still looks tastey!
