My LTD SC-607B and it's EMG 707's

Found out today that my SC-607B in fact has 707's in both positions and not 81-7's as listed in the specs . I E-mailed ESP and they confirmed that 707's are used in some production runs. Not really an issue for me since I'm switching the pickups to passive models, but I though those who are interested in this guitar might like to know.

By the way this guitar is a really great sounding and playing instrument. I find myself enjoying it oh so much.

Why not post this in the other thread?

And switching for what passive models? Nothing will fit the routing...

Can I ask, the EMG logo on those pups, were they written with Silver or Gold?

You mean the SC-607 thread started by Wound? Sorry, thought a new thread was called for since it's a different model. Sorry if I'm cluttering the board.

I'm switching them to DiMarzio's. I've had to have a little routing done to make them fit but nothing major. It's in the shop as we speak.

Wound: they have a gold logo.

And I'm interested in seeing this guitar after the mods are done, as you'll have really odd shaped pickup routes I'm sure...

We must be talking about different threads then..the only one I see says "I ordered the sc607". I now see we're talking about the same gtr, the bari. Apologies again if I'm cluttering the board.

Two Hands...I'll try to get pics up when it's done.

By the way, this still doesn't prove anything, as you said that ESP told you that it had 707s, but did you check the bottom of the pickups?

I'd say they are 707's since the EMG logo is written in gold. On the 81-7 it's written in silver. That's how you tell em apart I believe.

Wound is correct... Think of them as the 6-string versions are...a 707 is like an 85, and has gold logos... the 81-7 is like an 81, and has the 81's silver logos... the tags on the bottom serve more to give the pickup a serial number to track the batches they were made from in case it malfunctions. The models aren't always right...I have a 60 that has a tag for an 89....lol

The way i heard it, EMG makes their pickups in batches...a run of 81's, a run of 89's, etc... and they fill their orders that way. It's generally more accurate to look at the logos because they set up the batches with the housings first. So, a batch of silver-logo'd pickups will all get an 81 preamp placed in them and ceramic magnets before the epoxy is poured in and left to cure. Likewise all the gold-logo'd housings will get 85 preamps and Alnico magnets (i think). But once they come off the line, the little tags they get aren't as picky...lol Before I knew a 60 was a grey logo, I swore to my friend I had an 89. He said "You're stupid, it's a 60". I showed him the little serial tag, and he said "Dude, they get mixed up...". A guy at EMG confirmed it for me years later when I told him the story. He said they were more concerned about the serial number in the computer matching the pickup type, not the labels. This way if a pickup was faulty, they could see the whole batch made that day and who did it...and look for the others to make sure it was just the one pickup...
