My new RG 2077xl
My waiting is finally over, I just bought RG 2077xl and I must say this is one absolutelly great and
beautiful guitar
. I was planning this guitar to be an backup for my Universe 777BK, but now I really don't know which one will be used as a "primary" guitar
. Both are fantastic !!!

Congrats! I just received my used-but-basically-new 1077XL yesterday... it is one sweet axe! I love the look, love the feel, and pretty much love the sound (although I think I'll love the sound better with
Air Norton
7 and
Blaze pickups
in it!).

one question guys - what do you tune your 2077 to? I'm asking because I tune mine to A# and the
string tension
is a bit over the bearable state
I thought of tuning it up to B and putting 10s instead of currnet 9s but I presume the tension would be too much
done any mods to it, like more tremolo springs etc.?

Right now mine is tuned like a standard 7 (BEADGBE), but when I get some time to adjust the spring tension, I want to tune it ADADGBE. It'd be all the benefits of drop-D with an extra string!

bduersch, how much difference is there between the XL guitars and regular scale instruments at A? I'm really trying to get ahold of one of these guitars.

I have no idea... I've never tuned anything else to 'A' before.

I use my 1077 with 10-60 (standard GHS Boomers set), tuned to A (ADGCFAD) with 3 springs. I love it!
EDIT: the std set is 10-60, not 10-58

3 springs with 10s... is your bridge parallel with the body? what about spring tension + sound with the A tuning (the stock 9s were a bit wobbly tuned to A)?

My bridge is perfectly parallel to the body, and the springs are pretty normal (the claw isn't too tight at all).
The sound of 10's tuned to A is just enormous, and that is considering I use a crappy amp. I really can't compare string tension, because I got the guitar with this gauge and tuning and really loved it, so I never even experimented with others. It feels stiffer than my UV anyway (which is tuned to B with 9's)

1077's, so most likely 2077's, have the short 47mm springs

I'm playing
Ernie Ball
(56-10) with standard tuning on this guitar, but I will definitelly try that GHS (60-10) strings. I had to change springs for shorter ones (I think that I have Gotoh springs now), because the original springs are unusable (too weak) for 10
gauge strings
with standard tuning.

Any chance of some pictures?
It looks great in the UK catalogue - really classy - but on the website the fingerboard looks a bit light.

Yeah, I will try to take some pictures, but later next week, I'm going to UK for a business trip for some days. This guitar looks much better in reality that on Ibanez web. I will post the pictures here or on my bands web (which is nearly done) also with all my new gear (Line6 Vetta HD, Mod Pro, Echo Pro,Filter Pro studio modellers - I'm a great fan of digital modelling
).

once you get that vetta, I'd love it if you posted clips of the Exctacy and Überschall bogner models.
