NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
Hey guys. I'm thinking about buying a new
7 string
guitar. What are some of the best in the Ibanez game? I'm in a metalcore band. I was thinking of investing possibly in the Iron Label RG7321? It seems pretty sweet. Although I did read that the stock pickups are ass. Any input on that specific instrument or any other nice 7 strings? Thanks.

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
so you are playing metal but do you have any requirments ? Like active pickups, 25.5 scale, 27 inch scale maple neck/frets, bolt on?
There are a lot of guitars out there, if wanted to get one cheap you can find used 7321s for in the $200s. If you want new there are a lot new 7s out there.
the ltd 307 and 407s are nice, schecter loomis model, ibanez rga7
look here for a really nice collection of 7 strings

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
What's your budget? I'm a death metal player, so I can help with finding the right guitar for your needs when I know your budget.
Also, I have to ask because of metalcore's reputation. Do you NEED 7 strings? Because this could be a big ass waste of money on your part if you end up not liking it. Especially if a detuned 6 string would have treated you just fine.
Many people (not saying you) get into the mindset that a 7 string is better for detaining than a 6 string but that's simply not the case. An extended scale length 6 string could end up better suiting your needs than a standard scale 7, you know?
Also, what tuning(s) will you be using?
What kind of tone do you like?
What does your playing consist of?
Do you do cleans or shredding or need a neck pickup in any way?
What amp are you using?
Tremolo or fixed bridge?
Active or passive pickups?
Do you have big or small hands?
What other guitars have you played that you really liked?

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
I have a schecter hellraiser 7 string now and am going to trade it in. We play in D standard tuning. One bands guitar tone that really stands out to me is As I Lay Dying. The sound of Jeff Loomis' 7 string sounds pretty awesome. I like that thick yet clean heavy sound. I'm playing out of a peavey 6505+. I have relatively normal sized hands haha. I need something i can shred the **** out of. Also I would prefer the thinnest neck possible for a 7 -string. I'd like a tremolo system. I have an Ibanez prestige which I absolutely love. And I also have a JP signature Music Man which is my go to shred instrument. I love it also. The hellraiser just seems sub-par to me though...

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
If your band is playing in D standard do you really need a seven string guitar? You may as well get a nice six string, since you really aren't even touching the low B.

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
Sounds like you need an RG1527.
I wouldn't look anywhere else. The 2008 and up models in Royal Blue are my favorite guitars in the world. They play SO smooth. I learned all bits of shredding I know on one.
But Lone has a good point. For your tuning, get an RGD2120Z. You don't need the slightly longer scale for it. It just is an awesome feeling axe! Then get some SUPER thick ass strings on the top (62, 46, 36, 22W) and some normal ones on the top (14, 11) and I swear on my life, your shredding will cut through the mix, and your lows will be SUPER thick sounding.
And I know those strings sound thick, but they're not that bad. They'll easily be playable and bendable all day long!
Oh, and the RGD2120Z came in two finishes. Matte black on the mid 2012+ models and this cool silver crackle finish on the 2010-2012 models. If you want that, you may have to go used.

Re: NEED HELP ON BUYING 7 STRING
On a budget (meaning under $500) the only 7 string I would recommend is the Schecter Damien Elite 7 FR cuz it has everything I would want in a 7 string: EMG 81/85 set, OFR, 26.5" scale, strat style body, and I cant think of anything else Id need except a nicer/thinner neck, actually id recommend the Damien elite to anyone looking to spend under $1000.....after $1000 then you have more options. so I say Schecter Damien Elite 7 FR without a doubt
