interesting body shapes, definately unique. Those guitars wont be very user friendly to people who dont have gorilla mits. I have huge hands and a 7 string is just about as big as i can go. If I had the money to blow, I'd get one for kicks. I'd imagine that you get the option of 1 type of pickup. Unfortunately the 8 strings probably wont last long due to the lack of support, namely trem and pickup makers. I just cant picture an 8 string floyd happening.

As long as they keep it a hardtail and make their own pickups (which might be the case, i'm not sure) they have a nice market niche for them to fill...together with Conklin that is

Now thats a sweet looking guitar! Fredrik Thordendal was pictured with that guitar a while ago, I'm sure many of you it. I love the cutaway designs, looks very easy to access the high frets.

Haha, wuss! Just kidding.

I have extremely small hands, and I have no problems playing 7-string guitars, or 6-string basses.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really like the look of it. It's too rounded and traditional looking for such a non-traditional instrument. Also, I'm not a big fan of natural wood finishes. I really like the idea of having 8 strings, though. If only Ibanez would make an 8 string. An EdgePro 8 would be awesome!

If they can get their prices a lot more reasonable than conklin, conklin wont have a chance in that market. Conklin is a bit overpriced for what you get.

RE: the "gorrilla mitts," I just tried reaching for an imaginary 8th string on my 7- no problem.

RE: the pickups- hey, you have to have them custom wound anyway, at this stage in the game. I'm sure it won't be cheap, but it won't be limited.

As for the trem, I e-mailed them askign about the possibility of a floyd-style 8-string. They cryptically replied "anything will be possible in the future."

And Bucketbot, there's a guy on their forum who mentioned paying $2000 for a custom 6. It ain't cheap, but for what you get, I'd call that pretty damned reasonable.

now, if only I have about 3 grand to blow on a guitar right now... :-/

Man, I'd absolutely LOVE an 8 string Floyd. By the way, about the pickups. Seymour Duncan has a custom shop, but do you think that they'd build an 8 string humbucker? I think I'd like to have an 8 string Live Wire set. I don't care how much it costs at this point, because I have the will power to save up for as long as I need to, but I've GOT to have a custom 8 string.

Of course they arent going to tell you that the 8 string floyd wont happen. Floyd Rose certainly wouldnt do it and if it isnt Ibanez or floyd rose then its probably going to be similar to a trs. If you figure developement costs of something like that (if it did happen) with custom pickup winding, the price will be out of the atmosphere. 3k is looking more like 4k. Plus, an 8 string trem would be stiff as hell due to the enormous spring tension required to maintain equilibrium. 7s are already stiff enough for my taste. So is it worth several grand for a guitar that may have one more string but lacks greatly in other departments compared to lets say....a UV of 8527 which would be less than half that. I agree on natural finishes being cool but theirs look like sh$t. How often are you really going to use that 8th string? Myself, and a lot of people i know, barely even touch the 7th. Its good to have for change of pace.

I wouldn't want a floyd bridge for an 8-string anyway. As you said, it would be too stiff, but some people might like it anyway.
