NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

And the downside...(IMO) I hate highly finished necks...

Too bad it's not a set neck.

Yeah, I don't really understand why they went with a bolt on, finished mahogany neck...

Re: NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

John did try a set neck, but decided against it after lots of protos. The painted neck isn't my cup of tea either, but it's cool they're putting quilted maple on the bodies now in 4 colors.

Re: NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

I'm assuming they are locking tuners since there isnt a lock nut?

I really liked the Mystic Dream finish as well as Pearl Redburst, Gold & a few others.

I like either unfinished necks or clear satin cos clear gloss & paint can get sticky when you've been playing a while.

I guess you ocould wear a finger-less glove.

I like the D-Sonic 7 pickup too.

I'm very critical of Petrucci's last few efforts, BUT he always has the ability to produce something great so hopefully the next DT album is just that.

What other colours are available on that guitar btw?

No...EBMM let me down...I was TRULY excited for this new JP7...and they had to have a painted neck on it -_-

It seems minor, but is a MAJOR pain in the ass for me...

EBMM finished necks are great; don't let that dissuade you from one of these. Let the shape do that I like the original models better, I think.

Re: NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

If the neck finish is anything like the one on the EBMM bass I played before, it's very, very different from other painted necks out there.

Re: NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

I'll wait a bit until I see them in person then...

EBMM stock photos are almost as bad as stock Ibanez photos.

In fact, why do so many guitar companies have horrible stock photos that make their guitars look like crap?

I remember back in the day when jackson was king, their necks felt awesome in their neck-through flying v's.

I had a set neck King V that played amazing, but the thing was too heavy to play for more than 20 minutes and eventually became too metal for me.

Re: NEW Petrucci Seven Strings

So just curious.. Ive heard afew different opinions on this.. The D-sonic with the ceramic bar (is that it??) facing towards the bridge... Whats the difference between that and facing towards the neck?? I heard when its facing towards the neck, it gets a more distorted sound.. but if this one is facing towards the bridge.. Im confused again lol
