New project in stone

I have rested for two weeks now. The "Insane guitar" is not sold yet, and to me it is irrelevant. But I have gotten back my urge to craft a new one. This one will not be made by hand, but in our CNC-machine.

I learned a lot of things when I made the "Insane guitar" and now I will make a better one. An other thing I am learning is how to play the guitar... All the scales up and down. Chording, picking technique and so on. Fun!

You guys helped me a lot on my last project, so I was hoping to get your help this time to. This is my first idea. As you can see I have stolen the best ideas from my favoritelooking guitars and modified them into something even better ( in my opinion at least):

Opinions are most welcome!

Re: New project in stone

nice! but what about slanted pickups? they would pick up tighter bass freqs being moved toward the bridge by their bass side, and they would make the guitar look more coherent in its wholeness. just an opinion...

Nice stuff. Looks like it would be good.

Would an eight string guitar be a little difficult to learn on though?

Re: New project in stone

Well, I am 29 years old now. I have started to learn the guitar about now. I have no illusions of me becoming some big star. I will never be known for playing the guitar. But I will always love to make things with my hands and maybe I will be known for making guitars of stone. And after playing the "Insane guitar" I realized that to me there is no big difference playing a sixstring or an eightstring guitar. You can still powerchord since the seventh and the eighth strings are tuned in fifths. And maybe I am wrong, but barchording seven or eight strings seems pointless to me. And the final argument to make another eightstring instead of a sixstring is that I am equally crappy at both :-) but the eightstring looks cool to me.

Allright, here is my specsproposition:

Body: Black granite, neckthrough design with a fancy green granitetop and a steelreinforcement in the neck and headstock.

Scale: 28,5"- 26" fanned-fret-design tuned F#, B, E, A, D, G, B, E

Pickups: Lundgren bridge and neck M8 humbuckers and a oneoff singlecoil M8. Plus Graphtech Ghost piezosystem.

Bridge: Custommade compensated.

Other hardware: The fanciest I can afford.

So much money to no use... Anyway, fortunately my friends are great guitarplayers, so they can make good use of this. One goal is to make it lighter. The "Insane guitar" came out on about 15,5 kg I believe and I aim for 12 on this one. The neck will be 17mm thick + fretboard on this one compared with 25mm + fretboard on the other, which will take away one kg. And the hollowbody will hopefully take away a few more.

The plans are not written in stone yet and I welcome all ideas.

As awesome as your last guitar was, I agree on this one. You'll have to shell out quite a lot of cash for the custom pickups, but it will most definately be worth it, as the tightness when riffing on the low end will be insane with properly angled pickups!

In all honesty I love the look of the guitar but I wonder what it would look like if you reversed the headstock. So i switched it for you in photoshop

Re: New project in stone

Both me and my wife agrees with you Ibanezfreak777. It looks good reversed. There are a few small things that makes it not work right away, but I''ll work it out and we'll see then.

I'll also work on the pickups. Will have to talk to Johan Lundgren to see what he can do and what he can't do... I'll draw some pics during the wait.

Re: New project in stone

Here is the old guitar project I did:

http://www.jemsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58720

And now to the new one:
On this picture I have drawn the bridge-pickup as angeled as possible:

http://s169.photobucket.com/albums/u...t=PICT5483.jpg

It doesn't look good to me. So I tried to let all the pickups follow the same equation as the frets.

Hmmm... I don't know really.

that's what i meant. i think it looks cool, but the first reason is to give the bass strings a more tightened and less woofy tone. but that was just an idea...

Re: New project in stone

I just came up with a way to make the fretboard and frets of stone... and the inlays too. This will not be an insane guitar. This will be a straightjacket-right-on-the-spot-guitar.

Re: New project in stone

Wow im excited to see the end result. The reversed headstock I think works well because it commpliments the angled bridge.

Good luck

Re: New project in stone

why dont you make a 6 or 7 string. you will have a lot easier time selling it.
