new RG1527...will it be any good?

hey,
I'm wondering about the new 2003 RG1527. Supposedly its pretty much a reissue of the 7620 with a prestige label on it. How come its going to be so much more affordable? The MSRP on the 7620 was 1299 while this one is just 800. I'm just wondering what kind of instrument we can expect here. Sure it has the prestige label on it but it seems Ibanez is willing to put "prestige" on everything it can just to sell more instruments. Sorry, when I think of a guitar that i can buy for 600, i just dont associate fine craftsmanship with it. So will I be getting junk if I were to blindly buy one of these online or will I get a credible instrument?

I'm gonna give you the obvious answer....try one first!

The price isn't that meaningful...consider that when the 7620 came out, basically you either bought an UV or the RG, so it was easier for them to put the price.....

welcome to the forum... but... is this a joke

the 7620 was way overpriced in the current 7-string market. ibanez improved it dramatically, while repricing it to hopefully gain more sales.

you guys can debate the 'watered down prestige' label elsewhere, but i'll stay out of that because it would be a pointless discussion from my point of view. the axe is great news for 7-string shoppers...glen

As soon as you get your hands on a prestige neck, you'll never go back. Trust me- i just sold my prestige 2027 and held onto my regular 7620, and the one thing i miss about the 2027 is the neck. fit and finish was amazing- the fretwork was so much better on the (hand-finished) prestige.

When the 7620 came out, it was one of the more affordable 7's on the market, as someone just pointed out, and they can justify the price. Now, the competition is with used 7620's. Is the extra $300 worth it for the neck? you bet.

I think it will be a great buy. They will be shipping in about a month so we will see. The new 1520 is a great guitar so I imagine the 1527 will be a good value as well!!

i hope the RG1527 will be excellent, considering I have $200 (out of $520) down for one on layaway

Great question! Ibanez has a history of offering a more affordable version of a popular guitar using lesser quality woods & hardware, reflected in the price. Ex: the RG7621/ RG7421 or RG7620/RG7420.

A Prestige neck, which has in the past always translated into much more money, on a model that used to retail at $1200, now retailing around $800?
Did Ibanez add a better neck AND a better trem AND drop the price considerably? This is certainly not their track record.

I'm very (ultra zone) skeptical, too, but eager to see for myself.

in france it seems available
its in the catalog so well, if people @ ibanez are a little logical, well!
i'll have to try one out too bad before they go away once again.
i still have wonders about the longer scale. i heard various clips, from jim's clean tone to heavy stuff. but no shredding. is that longer scale any good for fast soloing? i really dig those 4 notes per string scales and i fear i might not be able to use them as much i do...

As far as the RG1527 being a "good" guitar for the price, I would have to say yes without even playing it yet. In fact I went ahead and ordered one through the local dealer.

Lucky little.... And the best of it is, it'll match your hair.

i can't see how it couldn't be a great deal, for that list price.
