New to 7 strings
Well I've been playing my 1527 for a dew days, and the 7th string kinda sit there unused. Any suggestions for 7-string oriented songs to learn?
I'm not quite on "technical difficulties" level but I'd say I'm almost an intermediate guitarist... I can learn difficult stuff but it takes me quite a while. Need a project to learn.
Really need to learn that theory...

Re: New to 7 strings
Well, when i ot mine, i actually wasn't thinking about any song to learn, but i started making my own stuff..
For start, try playing some of the stuff you usually play, but one string lower, to feel the gutts!

Re: New to 7 strings
satrianis 7 string songs are pretty accessible and groovy, one of the first things i learnt on 7 string was "7 string" by satriani
that and played sabbath's iron man with low b! when you do that with a whole band with 5
string bass
and regular guitar doing it in the standard octave it sounds HUGE!!

Re: New to 7 strings
learn lie or glass prison by dream theater, those are good to start with on with the 7, also what bands influenced you into buying a 7 string? knowing this would help us guide you in the right direction

As I Am by Dream Theater and Jaws of Life by Petrucci are also cool to learn!

Re: New to 7 strings
To be honest no bands guided me, I had the choice between a 1570 and a 1527, and seven string seemed like a really good idea. And I think it was too
Do you reckon I could teach myself theory out of a book, and if so, any recommendations? I'm on a student budget so a teacher isn't really an option...

Re: New to 7 strings
I think that The Mirror from Dream Theater is pretty cool to start with. There's no speed-of-light solo and it's quite groovy. If you're also into Meshuggah try Neurotica. It's not fast but there are some complex time signatures (not fast though).
One other thing is to try and play stuff that are tuned D-G-C-F-A-D on the B string of a stadard tuned guitar.
Enjoy your guitar! Enjoy the music!
