No more AF 207

It hasn't been on the Ibanez website for a while now, and I went to my local dealer, they said it was discontinued. Ibanez had just shipped their last two. Hopefully its going through a slight redesign, with possibly a longer scale length, but I'm guessing its due to poor sales. I know there weren't many people here were after one, but I've been looking for one off and on for a couple years now, just haven't been ready to get it. I guess this is a good time to go ahead and get an SD Jazz 7 installed in my RG 7621. . .

That sucks, but you're right... 24 3/4" scale and 7 strings weren't a good combo. Hopefully they'll bring one out with a scale length better suited to the low B/A string.

Does Conklin make a full hollowbody? I think I've seen it mentioned somewhere before, but I'm not sure...

As opposed to the $2000 I've been quoted for the AF 207. Also, if it is neck-through construction, how can it be full hollow? :P

Either way, I'm more likely to get a Buscarino 7 string in a few (actualy closer to 10) years from now, it'll be far superior to the Ibanez, and more of what I'm looking for than the Conklin. His shop is probably one of the closest of any hollowbody builders, plus he's rather well known. Check out the guitar gallery on his website. http://buscarino.com

Another builder I've been checking out is American Archtops at http://americanarchtop.com . Their prices are a little more competetive, but they're farther away from where I am.

Maybe I should be saying this in the Wish List thread. . .

Well, it looks like I've found a much cheaper alternative, for now. I've had some work (fret mill, setup, & saddle adjustment) on my AJ 307, and its like an entirely new guitar! The body is still too frigg'n big to be comfortable, and the nut is still too narrow. It is amazing what a good setup will do for a guitar.

I hope they'll bring it back with a proper scale length. It as a beautiful guitar but 24 3/4 inch scale for a 7 string just doesn't work at all.

I'm inclined to believe that the scale length wasn't such as much of an issue as demand, but it would be good to see it with at least 25.5 scale. Is there a possibility I could have my acoustic fitted with a magnetic pickup? The Benedetto's on the Seymour Duncan website say they're designed for bronze strings. I imagine the guitar would have a great deal of problems with feedback. The sound I'm going for is a warm, bright, hollow-body tone. Right now the piezo is too harsh and unbalanced between the strings.

It would be cool to see the AF 207 return, as it was the only production hollowbody 7 string that I know of... It was full hollow, wasn't it? I'm still not sure on that one, since I've never seen one in person.

Well, John does make absolutely fantastic guitars, but his prices are as high as they get, and his waiting list is huge. I'd recommend contacting Ari Lehtela in Charlotte for a quote. The man's work is excellent, his necks are from another dimension, and his prices are unbelievable (compared to other custom arcthop builders, that is). He also has lots of unique features he can put into his work. He offers a longer scale for seven strings, if you want it. www.laguitarfactory.com

Yeah, I've communicated with them through email a few times. They do seem like a great company, and they offered to let me go down there and try out a guitar that they've built for another order. If I do decide to go ahead and get a custom built, they'll be the first ones I go to. Right now it doesn't look like I'll have anything built for many years.

Ah, I'm in the same boat. It'll be while before I can get a custom archtop, but when I do, I'm going to Ari. His Blue Model played better than pretty much anything I've ever played.
