Well

with the arrival of my Diezel Herbert, and various other things that are new to the fold, I think it's maybe time to get a guitar to go with all this stuff. I've been saving my ass off for a long time, so now is the time.

I'm going to order a B.C. Rich V with a floyd. I want it to be oversized with a beast headstock.

Now here is where the quandry comes in.
I'm not sure what pickups I want in this thing.

You guys out there who have played around in this avenue please give me your ideas. one thing I know is I DON'T want a tonezone. That is probably my least liked pickup that I've ever owned.
Having said that, Let me know what you think

I was thinking something along the lines of a Bartolini 7, or a duncan 7. or just sticking with a blaze custom and an air norton.
I might try an emg 707. but I'm a bit dissapointed in the fact that this pickup is not like an 81 and it seems to be quite noisy! *in a friends guitar*


Any preamps our there worth looking at for 7 strings?

I'd look into Lundgren pickups, heard great things for heavy stuff

You could also try the new EMG 81-7, which is now available at Guitar Parts Depot.

Bartolinis are worth looking into as well... They can pretty much make whatever you want, and Frank Falbo says they're unparalleled for string-to-string clarity.

I'd look into the either a Duncan Invader 7, Distortion 7, or Custom 7, depending on what kinda sound you're looking.

If you don't want a Tone Zone, then I'd suggest a Duncan JB-7. I'm running a JB in all of my 6-string and 7-string guitars, and it's basically the opposite of a Tone Zone IMO. It has nice boosted upper mid's, clear highs, and nice tight lows. The clean sound is also very nice when split.

I always rate the Evo7, and now is no differant, those EMG's are good too (and should'nt make lots of noise) and he's spot on about the Bartolini's well worth a try too, Ask Frank

I agree 100% with Failsafe. That's exactly what I was thinking. The Duncan JB-7 is pretty much the exact opposite of the Tone Zone, so it might be up your alley. Bartolinis would definitely be worth investigating. I'm saving for a custom 7 right now, and I know that I want Bartolinis in it.
